Another great fig that is kinda dwarf if you are looking for small spaces.  I need to learn how to resize my pics LOL 

VDB s a great fig for pot culture. And pretty darn tasty too! 

Just bought VdB from an online nursery, but it won't ship until September 18th. Can't wait to add it to my collection.

Pads, if you have Photo Gallery, resizing can be done easily.

Is that for macs?  Sorry I'm not tech savvy.

Well Spring Gardens in Florida. They have a growing list of young fig trees produced from Tissue Cultures at a very reasonable price. At about $5 a plant plus shipping, I believe it is well worth the risk of failure, which actually is no greater than any other growing method. You do have to wait longer to eat a fig, but it is a hobby and worth the wait!  The classic "Desert King" is there as well!  :-) 

My plan is to roll it into my garage for this winter in Georgia and then maybe plant it in the ground next Spring - maybe. I might just keep this particular tree in a big pot on my patio because it is doing well in the shade there, looks nice next to my potted Mandelvilla plants and because it is a conversation piece for my uninitiated friends!  :-)

All my Wellspring plants are growing well also, only there are several shoots.  I read here that is common with TC's. More to air layer next year :)

It is a beautiful plant with those unique leaves.  Thank you for the link.  Since all my trees will have to come in from October through May, I am taking my time on acquiring 2 more.  I think one of these may be my next fig.

That's a good grower for sure !

VDB goes down both sides of my pool cage.  Planted spring of 2013 and laid down summer of 2013.   I trimmed all the verticals off in January so all the upright growth has been since March, the tallest are over 12' and each and loaded with figs.  Just love VDB.....not sure what I am going to do with literally 1000 cuttings though as each winter all the verticals are cut off completely.

Well first the pool is caged so it would be a good trick for them to get in to do that:)  Second we have no mockingbirds here for some reason.  I may have 1 or 2 in the spring show up as I have a couple hundred blueberry bushes but that is the only time I see them.  Other places near me they have tons of those nasty mockingbirds but here....almost none.  It could be because 5 miles from me there are some big blueberry farms and strawberry fields, maybe the birds congregate there?  No idea and don't care:)  I have had zero trouble so far from birds of any type eating my figs, raccoon's are a pain and possums but not birds.

VdB does like to go vertical, does it not? Clipping and pinching them is useful. I always thought that if I was ever going to espalier a fig tree against a wall, etc. that a VdB would be a good choice.   Joe

I picked it mostly because A. I had a lot of them and needed 7 and did not have 7 of anything else.  B. It did not want full sun and along the cage it doesnt get it.  I think you are right about the verticals.  At the time I figured snapping off side branches would be a daily chore but to my surprise they grew straight up without a branch....not one.  I do now start to see a couple branches starting to form and they are just starting to ripen figs.
