Hello all,
First post. I am having trouble identifying my fig tree based on photos and descriptions found online. Does anyone recognize this little guy? The fruit when ripe is approx 3.5" x 2.5", 4oz, and extremely sweet with a soft, edible skin. It has a five lobe fuzzy (not glossy) leaf which can grow to about 10" x10". I purchased the plant from a Persian market in a one gallon pot that said "fig". When I asked the gentleman at the store what kind of fig it was, he said he had no idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't tell you what kind of fig it is but if you leave it on longer it will be sweeter and probably much better tasting.  Wait till it droops loosely and protect it from critters.  It's a beautiful fig.  What part of the world are you in?

I've played around a little on the "when to harvest " thing. This is pretty darn close, maybe a day early. I find that if i wait much longer, i.e. severe drooping, wide open eye, flesh splitting etc the interior begins to brown and sour (overipe). It never does get very red/pink inside which is one of the problems I'm having with identifying it. The outside is green, green, green and then BOOM, its gold. I only have about 48 hrs (maybe 72)to pick it at that point. Yeah, critters are an issue but I've been pretty successful at keeping them out of the yard. 

I can't imagine it could get much sweeter. Its very sweet, almost like honey. Not what I would call a full flavor profile, though. My neighbor has a tree with some brown figs which have a very robust flavor profile. Very sweet, some sour, almost cistrus-y, more firm than mine. He planted it from seed he brought with him from Iran about forty years ago.       

Very pretty.  Not many out there that bright in color.

I don't have a clue to the identity, but it sure is beautiful. A nice score.

I know you said five finger lobed leaves but are there any three lobed in there?
If so, try looking into Excel.

Excel comes from Cali as an Improved Kadota.
This is the closest I can get at the moment. Assuming the leaves have the multiple patterns.

There are actually some three lobe leaves, but I'm pretty sure it's mainly fives. The ones that have three appear to have five veins. Kinda like the "thumb" and "pinky" just never got separated. I'll see if I can get a photo of what i mean tomorrow.

No precise idea, but I saw a post on "yellow long neck" or "long neck yellow".
It was a yellow fig with ( just guess ) a long neck . And some figs on your tree are exposing a long neck too.

I think you may be on to something. That is the closest match I've seen yet, although the leaf is slightly different.

Here is a photo of the three lobe leaf I mentioned earlier. I'm pretty sure its just an anomaly. There are only a few on the tree.
