Vasilika Sika - Main Crop Sept 14th 2014
Taste inferior when compared to main crop RdB, Hardy Chicago, Osborne Prolific or Latarrula. This is
the 4th Vasilika Sika fig for the main crop season. Green house grown.

Will post ripe fig when ripen. Need 2 to 3 days more.

Both variants came from Encanto Farms.

Interested to see how they compare. Wait for the White Greek to be really ugly before picking.

I’ve seen on the forum the comments about the Vasilika Sika from some greek guys and Herman saying that what many of us have (and shown in this thread) is not the VS they have in Greece. I remember the comparison to Stella/Dalmatian with similar thin leaves.
I think the Greek VS has broad leaves.

Do these varieties tend to split if any rain during harvest?

Stella split badly with rain. I have an in-ground Stella for years. Productive tree but going away to another home next February. Very likely the so called Vasilika Sika(Not/Stella) will go too as we do not enjoy its taste. I will post pic's at the end of the day on my Stella.

Enigma, since I read Herman's analysis I have started to call my fig "Vasilika Sika (Dalmatie family)" to distinguish it from the true Greek Vasilika Sika.  If the fig community could agree on a more appropriate name I would switch to that new name to further avoid confusion.

i am not even sure its a greek fig... it could be, but if it is its a white greek unknown.

Hi, Paul! I do have White Greek and this is a good one, real good, I mean taste. Lately I start to think they are the same with Vasilika Sika, I lost my last winter.And was thinking just keep my White Greek, but now.. I think to get another one , so I can compare.. I hear here someone was saying Stella and White Greek are the same.. But my White Greek don't split in rain. And Stella don't doing too good here, so, may be they are different.. will be very happy with what U do for him. He has similar climate like U. As for the real Vasilika Sika, I
will not seek it as I am down sizing to focus on proven super ones in my collection & on what kind friends
gives me re their super yummie ones.

"Dalmatie" doesn't split ... It does sour :( with rain and get mold inside ...especially since the eye has a tendency to look to the skies and this allows
for rain to enter the eye. This year, my "Dalmatie tree1" has a bumper main crop - I can't complain on that tree this year ...

For what it's worth, I've been calling one Belleclare's Vasilika Sika and the other just Vasilika Sika, sometimes mentioning name of Herman/Vasile

Stella is definitely not the same as the White Greek.

Paul I know you've been doing this a long time but to me that VS-not doesn't look ripe at all.
