Hi figs180, They almost all are good. But we all have our own taste buds and our preferences. We all have our own climate that will have an heavy influence on the ripening and taste of the fruits. So make the test for yourself and don't let others influence you in not getting this or that. I would suggest you try first figs that ripen quickly and are cold hardy. As for cold hardy cultivars, there are lots of posts on the forum, but here goes a small list : Brownturkey, hardy chicago and mount etna types related , celeste , Dalmatie, ronde de bordeaux, Pastiliere , Longue d'aout, Brunswick,"Goutte d'or" and any figtrees that is already growing well and fruiting well in your neighborhood. On the fun side, but not necessarily the most adapted to our Zones 7 : Panache and Ice crystal . Did you check in local nurseries at your place to see what is available ? My targets are trees under 15$ . I don't buy them too big as they would cost more, and be stunted from growing in a too small container. Sometimes nurseries will sell some cheap trees, worth the try . Rooting cuttings is fun, but it will take you more time to get your first fruit ... Are planning to grow in ground or potted ? With greenhouse ? With winterprotections ? Good luck !

Your climate is pretty much the same as mine. I grow figs in both the ground and containers. Some my best and hardiest figs I grow are:
Ground Hardy Chicago Kathellen Black LSU Purple LSU Gold Celeste Brown Turkey Marseilles Black Atreano Pananas Purple Don Fortiss Italian 258 Improved Celeste Weeping Sal's Sal's Corelone aka Weeping aka Martin's Unknown Adriatic JH Hunt Texas Everbearing Madeleine des deux Saisons Pappa John LSU Everbearing Green Greek Desert King LSU Late Black Alma Strawberry Susser Georg Votata Native Black ...and a few more that I forget at the moment
I have a lot more in pots.
The best ones that did the BEST (ground) in my climate were: Desert King Marseilles Black LSU Purple LSU Tiger Celeste Brown Turkey Atreano
The best ones that did well growing in containers were: Hardy Chicago Florea Mike's Main Street Purple Black Maderia Fico Preto San Petro JM Pasteriliere RT Col de Dam Grise Dark Portuguese Banana Beall Beer's Black Petite Aubique Black Bethlehem Ishica Black Blue Celeste Brogotto Nero Aboukounis Black Panachee Galbun Piedmonte Black Celeste Latturulla Portogallo Toni's Brown Italian Gypsy Smith TX-BA1 Malta Black Peter's Honey Excel Hunt BC# 23 Lyndhurst White Marva Silka Vasilika Sika and many more....
Brown Turkey is good despite what others may say. You just have to find a good cultivar and stick with it. Petal from the Past has one of the best Brown Turkey figs. I've got 3 from them growing in pots.
