So I had the last fig from my supposed Smith fig today. I'm not too sure it is Smith though.
I bought the tree this time of year, 2 years ago. It is a slow grower, but appears otherwise healthy. Last year it only set two figs and didn't ripen either. This year it set a crop late, so I thinned it to about 10 figs. They all were ripened in the sun room where it gets fairly cold but not freezing at night and the sun intensity is pretty good but obviously not the same as outside in the summer.
The figs all ripened to a yellow/green color and the eye is..well, non-descript not red and no honey dripping from or blocking it. The fig has never had any coloration to it other than yellow/green with maybe some sugar spots if I let it hang longer. The figs remove from the tree very easily with just a touch or a slight pull. The leaves have a sheen to their surface and shape which sometimes remind me of Black Madeira and sort of like Battaglia Green also. I know leaves vary with location and tree maturity, but when I see pictures of leaves from Smith trees that are larger than mine I think mine look nothing like them in shape.
I'm wondering if I was sold a Vert that was tagged as Smith. Or will the leaves and figs of my tree change evem more with age? Or, like many other figs, are different nurseries selling different figs labeled as Smith?(Duh right?) In a handful of the pictures I see, the leaves have many similarities to mine. I feel like I have to get another tree from a different nursery to ensure I get a real one, but that adds another tree to a collection that is already way past where I'm trying to get to and I feel like I did my homework on where to get one the first time.
The tree has dropped a good deal of leaves and obviuosly the remaining leaves are losing their green so the luster is gone, plus they are battered from this summers hail storms. But there should be enough here to recognize if this is Smith. What do think fellow Smith owners, have I been hornswoggled?

Hi Calvin, I have an extra Smith in a 2 gallon. I could bare root it in February and send it to you, if you'd like. It would save you a year. Let me know.
