I grew cuttings last year so here is my report. They make a remarkably pretty little tree, even in year one. I gave some away, to spread them farther. Can't wait to taste the figs this summer (I hope). Thanks again COOP.

Coop, got my cuttings a couple of days ago. Once again, thanks for sharing the story and the cuttings with us.

I received some last year and they have grown wonderfully for me.  Hoping to get first fruits this summer. Coop was able to send me a few more this year which arrived yesterday and I am looking forward to getting them started and having more to share.  I looked at the 2 I put in ground this summer and they are looking good despite temps in the low teens and possibly single digits one night this week. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping this will be a variety that can be grown in ground in this area with little winter protection starting from year one.  The tips are looking better than those on some of the older trees. Trees are planted next to some same age HCs and a couple of EBTs so it should be an interesting comparison when they all start fruiting.

I started my on the 13th and just noticed green leaf just starting to form today. No roots yet. Does this mean there might be hope for this brown thumb?

rx2, Same here. I see a few cuttings budding out, although no visible signs of root yet. keep them ideal conditions, warm and humid as forum members suggest, and the roots should form soon. In case if the root development takes longer than the shoots, the leaves will turn dark, shrivel and drop. But don't you worry, they grow back once the roots establish. This is what happenned with my last 2 batches.

I put two of my cuttings into the Gel2Root, they are starting to show signs that they want to root but no roots yet.  However, those two trees are both budding out now.  I put two cuttings into cups with a perlite and a small amount of sphagnum moss, so far, no roots or buds breaking.  The rest went into the moss box with other cuttings and the same, no signs of roots and no buds breaking.  I'm sure it won't be to much longer, word is they root pretty easily.


Edit: The cuttings in the Gel2root were started two weeks ago, the rest one week ago.

When you report no roots we will have a better understanding of your situation if you tell us how long the cuttings have been in your rooting set up.  Personally. if 5 weeks end and there's no roots I change something - I take the cutting out and reformulate its environment.  If it looked like a good perlite/peat mix I put it in sphagnum or coco coir.  If there might have been too much peat I throw out what it was in and make fresh medium with less peat.  Often it will root rapidly after that.

Received my cuttings today Coop. They look great! Thanks again. Think this one will do well in my area. Wonderful Story included, sounds very similar to my family fig trees in Long island. 

I am experiencing similar results with my Dominick cuttings. I started them in bags with paper towels and just moved some to a shoebox with perlite / HP mix to change things up. Most of the white specs have turned brown and now the buds are starting to swell. Decent callus forming but no roots to report yet.

Dominicks fig cuttings are beasts. It took a little longer than others to root but once they get going they form strong thick roots. Two in water by the window sill grew root initials within a couple of weeks but not long roots. I planted them in perlite- opting soil ,light mix and the roots are showing after only one week. I had planted one cutting from day one in potting soil - perlite since and is showing roots now also. Lesson learned is that no matter what you do ,the cuttings have the last word. When it is their time they will root!!! Looks like a strong grower. I like the serated look of the leaves and a very faint redish tint on the new buds. Thanks for sharing Jim.
