Hi everyone, I have received a few cuttings from a friend who lives in Middle East unfortunately neither he nor the owner of the tree knows what the variety is. Hopefully someone here can identify the variety based on attached pictures below. Thanks in advance. Wildfig.jpg  wild fig3.jpg  Qatar.jpg

Looks sort of like Afghanistanica or something similar. There are many quite a few members who have the Afghanstanica fig, maybe you should rename your thread "Is this leaf Afghanstanica?" That would probably draw their attention sooner.

Definitely looks like Afghanistanica.  Those figs look a little different, too.  Very nice.

Wowzer, very pretty leaves. Now you state ME as source, and that skinny, spiney leaf structure would seem optimal in limiting available surface area of the leaf being exposed to transpiration in a dry, hot environment. What region was it from specifically if you don't mind the asking?

Thanks for the compliments..hi Calvin I'd been trying to change the thread as you've suggested but couldn't do the editing..perhaps i'm not used to the format..anyway i'll try again later..as for the exact location of this tree I'll ask my friend where is it and keep you posted  soon...Let alone..

In the Arabian peninsula there are wild figs that have this leaf shape. This fig is most likely a smyrna type. It's not necessarily an afghanistanica, as the leaf shape is slightly different.

You are very fortunate to have a fig with a very different leaf form compaired to most figs even most rare ones. Love it. Ps. Ice Crystal is from a different variety

Thank you Bass for the info..btw the mother tree was found at the back of Qatari house in Doha..since nobody could have identified the variety we've decided to name it "Frozen" lol..See the beauty sharp and sheer..split the ice apart and break the frozen heart.hup! ho! watch your step! let it go! - Frozen wild fig5.jpg

Hi Malikyusof,
Nice leaf shapes.
I looked at my pics of my Ice Crystal, and this one is not Ice Crystal, although due to the age of that tree, the leaf shapes could be a bit different.
Well, you'll have to raise it, test it, and see what it will do !
Do you know if that tree makes edible fruits ? Could be a caprifig or some ornamental tree ?
Good luck !

Hi Jdsfrance, thanks..well obviously it's not Ice Crystal but to keep it as ornamental  tree would be great i guess..i love the shape and size of Daun Frozen.jpg    the leaves..

Do the fruit in the post #1 (3rd picture) belong to this same plant?
If so, have you seen the fruit ripen yet and what color id the interior of the fruit?

Sorry Aaron.. Oh yes they are in third picture..unfortunately when my friend went to see the mother tree, fruits were all gone..haven't had a chance to see fruits ripen..maybe next season we shall see how do the fig and pulp look like..

Searching the internet for seven lobed fig leaves, I came across this image

[ficusbrunswick]

The plant is for sale by Urban Jungle in the UK as Ficus carica 'Brunswick'.

I also found this image in a Dave's Garden article titled "Uncommon Nutrition from the Common Fig ~ Ficus carica". The picture is simply titled Ficus carica.
