Thanks for sharing.

I just saw a post on GardenWeb this morning about a Red Israel or Khurtmanni (spelled slightly different than you have).  See the post of February 8, 2014 at http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/fig/msg011833323945.html?20 and subsequent comments.  He calls it Red Palestine as it was first grown there but then grown widely in Israel but says that the actual variety name is Khurtmanni.  I'm hoping that it will perform well in our hot arid climate here in NorCal.

I don't care to get into the political discussion of that.  I don't know if this variety was grown prior to the formation of Israel and don't know if anyone does know.

Khurtmani might be derived from arabian word 'khurmani' which mean amber ..
in indonesia some people called it red palestine and its just local name given by local collector ..

Ray given's site explain that khurtmani =eseli

Thanks, afriadoni.  Ray's site no longer is available.  Do you know of an online source with the information you're referring to?  Can you explain more what you mean with the comment "khurtmani=eseli"?

Okay, I see that you mean Eseli is a synonym for Khurtmani.  Jon has it listed at http://figs4fun.com/Var_K_info.html#KHURTMANI
