Did 5 of these on my Preto, this is the largest and last to be removed.
Potting media was spent 5.1.1,quite decomposed.Layer was treated as
a potted plant while hanging,watered and fertilized.Container is a #5 pot.
Time from beginning to removal,apx.90 days.

Hanging.

Removed.

A week prior to removal 20% of the leaves were removed to balance top growth to root and prevent
flagging at removal. It now goes into shade for a week after which it will be placed in dappled light for another week.

Paul

Nice looking tree paul. Very cery heathy and beautiful. Thanks for sharing. I did a really big air layer on my plum tree. It had a huge root ball so i planted it in the ground. It strugled. I should have cut it back like you did and moved in shade in a pot. Thats why i read all the post. Old and new post are very informative.
On another note. I tried rooting preto three times. I will grow for awhile then die out. Air layer is the way to go with gard to root fig cuttings

Nifty! That is the biggest air layer I've ever seen done, and it looks absolutely fantastic, healthy, and well balanced. Nicely done.

Really nice air layer.

Are you going to keep it in a pot or plant it in ground?

Thanks Richie. So you killed the cuttings, huh?I think I may know a guy
that will have well rooted starts soon.Let me know if you're interested.<G>

Hi Mike, give me a heads up when you're in the area after mid July, everything
should be fruiting then.

JD,size is nice but structure is better. You knew this was coming.Air layering
the air layer...It's a sickness I tell ya!

You can see scaffolding #1 running at 9 to 3,the lower three are being removed. They would have been shaded out eventually.Secondary scaffolds are already well developed and about to be pinched.
If you draw a line from 12 to 6 each side of the tree will be allowed to develop on their side of that
line.

This weeks haul.

It cleared enough space so I can now do a "proper" layer.

Jarret, this large stuff is destined for a fig hedge out front.I've decided to run Preto and Strawberry
Verte,alternating between them,along a 50 foot section.

Cheers,

Paul

You weren't kidding about having a 'large' airlayer!  Looks great!
