I found this unknown fig a few weeks back just down the street from me, near an alley. The Figs are very Large. Well the figs finally ripened and to my surprise they were good. Tasted very similar to a Black Mission. When I first saw it I thought maybe it was caprifig. So I was happy to find out it was good. I am going to call it Unk Black Exeter Fig. I will see if I can contact the owner to see about getting some cuttings.  (We are a  funny bunch, we look for fig trees in alleys and behind buildings...LOL). We surely can look suspicious...LOL

Man that looks like a good fig, I wish I can come across something like that! Keep me in mind for cuttings, lol.

It is probably a California Brown Turkey, it has at least a dozen other names too. A very good indeed, one of my favorite.

A golden find.. a healthy tree with great figs. Whatever they are (after so many baptisms and re-baptisms), they look super!
Wonder if you tried to test how good its seeds can swim ?

Congratulations!  I wish I could drive through this town and find some fig tree NOT in someone's back yard.  So far I've found 4 in backyards.  No wild trees at all, and I've driven the backroads between here and Temecula many times.  I am the only fig lover in this area, except for my doctor who is from someplace where figs are plentiful.  He has to take good care of me because I control his fresh fig supply!

Thanks Everyone, yea it was a great find. Greenfig: it is not a Brown Turkey, The skin is thin like a Mission type. On the local Brown Turkeys the skin is thick and has a caramel flavor.
Eli:I didn't find any Single Lobed Leaves. The leaf in the center pic is the dominant leaf. 

Fig hunting can be so fun. And scary if you are wandering down the wrong neighborhood. Seattle has an Area that used to be known as "garlic gulch" where most of the european immigrants moved to decades ago. Today you can find 20 huge trees within a few miles from each other, most were brought over as cuttings. However the area is known today as the "Ghetto" part of Seattle. So it's a bit scary to go fig hunting in that area even though it there's a wealth of trees growing there. I have more info on blog about it.

I will add Frank and Vito to my list. I will be taking a few cuttings in a few weeks. Most of the tree is on private property, so I hope to eventually be able to get a lot in the winter for pruning.

please add me also.   Black fig is my favorite too.    You all are so lucky.  No fig trees in the  Tampa and larger area.   Never have seen one except...........in pots in my yard. Yeah!!!     Plenty of citrus trees around   but they are no fun    everybody has them.    Lucky you for adventures in fig finding.

Not a “Brown Turkey” but a “California Brown Turkey”. Those 2 are different figs.
The CBT also goes by the names:
Black Spanish, San Pedro, San Piero, Thompson’s Improved Brown Turkey, Improved Brown Turkey, etc.

Does my Black Jack belong on that list Greenfig???

UPDATE:  Well last week I went by the tree and did a more thorough inspection and found some Mission type fig leaves. Also noticed that appears to be overwatered. It was soaked every time I visited it. So in conclusion it's most likely a Black Mission Fig that has been overwatered.

So this tree has many different shaped leaves.....which causes confusion...?????

It looks like one of my LSU Purple figs, the shape on one tree is unique and looks like your picture.  The difference is the short neck as opposed to a more "Top" shape that the rest of my Purples have.  The green shade at the top is classic LSU Purple.
