I have an Encanto Red tree that had a bunch of figs on it this year, but lost them. I never found them if they dropped off the tree, though I also didn't look hard enough (this tree backs up to a monster squash patch). A bunch of my Celeste figs dropped, but I found them in the pot. Would anything try to eat an unripe, hard fig? I would assume it'd be a mammal, but maybe also a bird?

Do you have squirrels around your place?  If you do then that's probably what it is. .

Arne:My opinion:
Get rid of both ,you named.
They are not totally parthenocarpic,(self fertile)that is why they drop.

@pedrom - I sure do have squirrels and had wondered about them - if they take fruit, and when. They probably think the unripe fruit are nuts? I never catch them in the act, though...

@Herman - I've been reading up on Celeste and with the fruit drop this year, I agree it probably isn't worth keeping. It looks like a couple may ripen. The ER is something new I picked up just this year, but I will take your word for it. I'll make room for something else that I know works well.

Thanks.
