Anyone in Dallas growing Peter’s Honey, Excel, or Kadota?  I understand some honey figs requires lots of heat (which we have lots of in Texas) to develop its sugars and character. How has it been working out for you? Are you growing in containers or in-ground?

Those three are the same fig. They do very well in lots of heat and in climates with long summers. Should do well in zone 8.

As for planting it in ground vs keeping it in a pot.. I'd search through the forum to find out what works best for you.

I have Kadota in a 35 gal pot, does real well.  Tree is 4 years old.  I moved it to my barn for the last 2 winters.  It is in a pot because the ground has high clay content and does not drain well.  It is not as good as my LSU Gold or LSU Scott's Yellow but definitely a keeper.

I was afraid the high clay content might be a problem as well. Now just need to get one.

I have Excel, Kadota and Peter's Honey. I have 10 of each growing in pots side by side. They are different figs, with similar leaf patterns and fruit, but not the same.

I selected Peter's Honey out of the 3 of them, because it ripens with less heat and is sweeter than the other 2.

Ahh my mistake, Sid. Also fantastic observation. I'll have to root my Peter's Honey cuttings after all.
