if you go strictly by their instructions in the belleclare fig brochure (page 3), it appears they fertilized their container figs every 2 weeks with miracle-grow 15-30-15. so I am guessing they needed that much lime to offset the impact of the fertilizer on the soil. i don't fertilize that often, therefore i don't think I need that much lime. but to answer your question (i am not an expert), i think too much lime may adversely affect the fig tree

Thanks so much for posting this. Some of the names of the fig trees were hard to understand. Does anyone know what #1, 2, 3, and 7 were?

  2. Unknown stock plant (?) with air layers (1:24)
  3. Parese (?) White (1:44) popular among Italians
  4. Black Mission (3:29)
  5. Royal Vineyard (3:33)
  6. Kadota (3:40) honey fig
  7. ??? candy sweet –not honey (3:49)
  8. Malta (4:24)
  9. Petite Negri (5:41)

this is the lime i use. I do not believe it is of  "agricultural" grade, as alan mentions above. The directions do prescribe recommended amounts per 100 sq ft based on PH levels, and in the absence of a soil test, recommend only 2-4 tbsps. per plant into the soil.

Hey Mara I have one of the Weeping Sports from Belleclare It's an Italian Ever bearing variety It's an excellent tasting fig and it only bears fruit at the end of the branches

The #2 stock plant that you are talking about is another Weeping variety Both trees the father brought to the United States from Italy
