Family Favorite and the Missions are starting to ripen. I liked the Mission it had a little hint of caramel. The Family Favorite was very good. It was sweet with a slight cotton candy taste....These were the first ones and I expect the Family Favorite to take a purplish color with all the heat here in Central California.

The joys of living in California!

Went out to my son's house in the central valley.  The little trees I gave him earlier this year are twice as tall as the ones I kept here in the Bay Area.  On the average, his place runs about 10F above the temps at my house.  He doesn't get the fog, either.  Central California is definitely a good place to grow figs!

Armando, we grow black missions in my family, even if I have plenty a good amount of youngster figs waiting to be tasted in the coming years. What is the history behind your "Family Favorite" fig, it looks really tasty.  Is it a common type? 

It is an Unknown, so know history. I found this abandoned tree near my home in the beautiful town of Exeter. I have seen a tree or two that appear similar but have a smaller size fruit. I do believe its a common fig.

Can you clarify which is which in the two pictures you posted. I have a super tasty fig like the one on the right in the first picture. It was labeled as white genoa by the nursery but that was clearly wrong description so I still don't know it real name. The vertical split is always my indication it is ready to pic and they are absolutely fantastic tasting
I am guessing its the same variety as the one you show
These pictures are from last year since they are still green and just starting to get some color now in the Bay Area

If the skin is thick and its a very large fig and has a cavity then its the California Brown Turkey, the Black Mission has a thin skin and so does the Black Jack.
