I've been using this for 3 years on pots up to 40 gal

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200586484_200586484    $80

Also, the old N Tools tree pot mover link doesn't work.  Here's the new link.

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200631819_200631819  $200

The link to the bigger plate dolly above doesn't work for me because of extra, invisible characters after the .html.  Here's a link that does

http://www.nurseryenterprises.com/large-pot-dolly.html     $460

We're not told the widest pot this can handle but given the 16" wheels it looks like a 20" diameter pot will fit but a 24" pot might not.  So this might handle a 20 gal pot but not a 30 gal pot.  For the money I'll stick with the $79 NT hand truck.  Even if it wears out 3 times sooner you'll still save money buying 3 of them.

It's very hard to say.  Knowing where you are may help.  A city and country or if it's a small country just the country would help.  If the soil is too dense it may alternate being too wet and too dry.  Young figs are more sensitive to soil conditions than older ones.  What's the recommended fertilizer concentration?  There should be one for garden plants and 1 for houseplants.  Since this is in a pot you have to use houseplant strength or less.

The reason some people say that is if there's an interface between 2 very different soil types water can run along the interface instead of penetrating in to the soil.  To avoid that you can blend the soils where they meet or interrupt the smooth interface with things like pine bark chunks.  You can even make numerous small holes in the lower layer and fill them with soil from the upper layer.  I'm sure there are other ways as well.

Access is a lot more flexible and organized than a spread sheet can be.  It's easy to learn and totally worth it.

Cliff, I'd love to see what you come up with.  I had a lot of linked tables but I lost my whole DB in a computer crash - data and design.  My back up S/W said every day that it was working but nothing had been recorded for 3 years.  I'm slowly re-doing my inventory.

Wow, terrific!  Congratulations on your seedlings!  A tip for you:

Pollen is easily damaged.  Practice your technique with some white powder you can get on the street corner downtown.

In all seriousness that's a great accomplishment.  I'm pretty disappointed that it took 4 years to get your first breba and 5 to get a good crop and that's on 1 caprifig out of 3.  Have the others produced figs yet?  I was hoping they'd start in 3 and be great by 4 - 5.

I've heard that persistent caprifig pollen isn't of as high a quality as the rest of the caprifigs so your goals may be interfering with your success.  :)   But they're great goals so more power to you!

Are you interested in getting a Gillette?

Note: For growers on the west coast and in zones 7 or higher, we recommend our late bloomers which break do not break dormancy as quickly as the early bloomers. Our late bloomers have also proven to be cold hardy to zone 3 and possibly even lower.

OTOH, web sites claim the flowers are not affected by temps less than 19 - 22 F.

Try pouring some warm Red Bull on your local hives.

I went to some local nurseries and they all had only 1 variety, Sugar Mountain Blue.  It had several berries and they had a mild but pleasant taste.  I bought 1 and while reading found out that they need pollinators  :)   I did a lot more reading online and found that some varieties taste terrible until 4 weeks after the outside turns blue.  Once the inside turns from green to blue THEN they're ripe.

Subject: When Can i Fertilize? Replies: 5
Posted By: rcantor Views: 313

Ideally you want to fertilize just when the hormones are flowing to cause bud break.  If you're not mystically gifted you wait to see buds start expanding like the rest of us.  The strength of the fertilizer depends on the age of the plants.  I give 1/2 houseplant strength to recently rooted cuttings and go up to houseplant strength when they're fully hardened off.  It's better to give a small amount often than a large amount infrequently.

It's also important to stop fertilizing 6-8 weeks before your plants will need to go dormant.

You can fertilize it if you're bringing it in at night as long as it gets direct sun outside every day.  The worst thing you can do is fertilize it so it grows fast then leave it inside during the day where that growth will be weak and lanky.  Depending on how big your leaves are you may have to acclimate them slowly to the sunlight.

There's nothing wrong with moving it in and out depending on the weather.  Many do that.  Everyone with just a few figs in areas that get cold does that.  Keep doing it  :)   Keep it moist but not overly wet and fertilize it using houseplant strength fertilizer once it's outside during daylight hours every day.  For fastest recovery don't let it see temps under 55 or so but have it outside as much as possible.  When inside keep it in as much sun as you can.  If you don't the growth will get lanky and weak.

Putting your zone and approximate location in your sig like Sas has will always help you get better answers to your question.

First of all, welcome to the forum!  Both of the above posts are right.  I'm leaning toward this being a fungus because of the brown in the middle of the yellow.  The fungus will make the leaf drop but it won't really hurt the plant.  Don't let dead leaves stay around and let it dry a bit if you can.  FMV is everywhere so if you want this variety I'd say go for it.  Good fertilization with major and minor nutrients will help your plant minimize the effects of any virus and recover faster from any infection.  Be sure the soil drains well so the roots don't sit in water.  Figs hate that.  Including your location in your sig like everyone else in this thread does will help us help you more effectively.  :)

There's a 25% chance of it being an common fig but since it appears you have the wasp your smyrnas are edible so you have about a 50% chance of having an edible fig.

It can work but either the biofuingicide or the mycorrhizae eat the crystals.  If you have the plain BX you don't have to worry.  It already drains more slowly than the HP so be wary of putting newly rooted cuttings in it.  The crystals work fine as long as microorganisms don't eat them.

Fertilizing it with half houseplant strength fertilizer should help.  As was mentioned before be sure not to over water.

Another thing you can try is Keiki paste.  You scrape a small piece of bark and put a dab there.  It works best if you put it on a node (just barely scrape some brown off if you do that).

Good luck.
