I see your in Cailf  try this

Creating a Liquid Kelp Fertilizer

You can transform fresh sea kelp into an organic liquid fertilizer for easy application. Simply add two generous handfuls of sea kelp to a 5-gallon bucket full of water. Over a period of three days, stir the kelp and water mixture 3 times per day. At the end of the three days, strain the formula and dilute the liquid using 2 parts water to 1 part kelp formula. Transfer the diluted formula to a spray bottle or mister. Apply the fertilizer during the morning or early evening by spraying the leaves from above and below until the liquid forms droplets and drips off

I would like to share with the group about potting soils. My Sister in law worked for Earl May and we all have got trees or plants from the Nursery  Have you wonder whats  in the pot ??? Tree Bark  peat perlite slow release fertilizer. So next time you go and get a bag of Miracle-Gro look at the back on ingredients you will see tree products their is no soil in these anymore. A plant or Fig tree will only give you back what you put into them. One of my friends tells everyone around here the man can grow roots on a Rock. So here are some of the things and ingredients I use  Please Note I am copy and paste some of this so you may follow up and look up what I use. These are the ingredients I use.For those lucky to live by the Sea 1 Sea Kelp 2 Decomposed tree bark and tree compost with mushroom mycelium you can look up info how mushrooms will save the world on the Net. 3 Organic compost I have three compost cooker 4 Azomite You really need to look into this. 5 rice hulls instead of perlite. Here are the reasons why and you can look them up.   The key to a healthy garden is healthy soil. Plants thrive when their roots are in soil that is rich in the nutrients. Although chemical fertilizers may help resolve immediate deficiencies in soil's nutrient content, organic fertilizers promote the soil's overall health and insure the long-term health of garden plants. Sea kelp is a natural substance you can use to condition soil -- it can contain more than 70 vitamins, minerals and enzymes essential to the health of a plant .The tree compost are rich organnic and the mushrooms helps feed the root systems

AZOMITE® Trace Minerals

AZOMITE® is a natural product mined from an ancient mineral deposit in Utah (USA) that typically contains a broad spectrum of over 70 minerals and trace elements, distinct from any mineral deposit in the world. AZOMITE® is used internationally as a feed additive and a soil re-mineralizer for plants, and is available in over thirty countries throughout the world You can look this up on the Net

Well you know this could be a good thing !!!! Louisiana has  credit and creating alot of different types of figs.  I think I read at L S U site that their were a least 1000 types of figs here in the State anyone out their please correct me if I am wrong. I didn' have a chance to get cuttings from Davis like a lot of people here on the form did and I see a few on E bay selling what they got for free now selling for money. I had P M a few of these and was told to go to E bay because that's the way they wanted to do this a bidding war !!! I dont think this is why I join this site I came here to become better at growing figs and help others if I can not to make money. I for one will share what I have I have a dream of 40 to 50 trees in the ground for me and my and the wife and we are pushing 60 so we can share with people around here and the kids So I am looking for help to make this come true anything I don't have is a big plus !!

Here in Hawaii a year is a full 365 days of growth.  A rooted cutting in a 10 gallon pot, I get an average of 1ft per month of growth, so 12 feet a year is avg.  Some varieties grow faster, hardy chicago and desertking are my 2 fastest, during the peak of summer they can put on 2ft a month.  Alma and peter's honey are much slower and grow 6 inches a month avg.

I had a brown turkey that I planted in the ground and it grew from a 1ft tall 1 gal, to 8ft tall by 20 ft wide by 20 ft long in 12 months and produced 700+ figs.
I am in zone 9 we have 9 to 10 months Jan Feb are the cold months
