I bought a Blue Ischia off that company.
Later I read that it may not be a blue ischia at all.

I will not order from them again.

This year I have used it as my only fertilizer
I did not use 10-10-10 like I have in the past.
This year I only fertilized my 2 year old and younger trees.

If I had more manure, I would have top dressed all my trees.
All in time.

Possibly keep roots cooler.
Black pots absorb heat. Cooks roots.
Those that bury their pots in the soil will not get so affected by heat.
It looks like the smaller pots have most of the yellowing.
Small pots heat up quicker.
Maybe a white coat of paint on the buckets to reflect the sun light?

I put it in the hole of new transplants and I top dress my trees around the base.
I use it in my cutting soil too. I have meat rabbits to produce manure and meat and pelts.
I've never seen any manure work better, as bunny poo does not need composted to be safe to use.

Although my dogs can be used for show, the parents were both working dogs.
The AKC and ASCA registered dogs I have run in a 40x40 pen.
I don't let my females off leash for a reason,,no mutts.
You should know that all pure aussies have herding bred into them by nature.
They do not need trained to start herding, they do it naturally as a young pup.
They do need trained to not nip at your heels.
My dogs are also genetically tested for purity.

I'll let my 22 air rifle chase birds.
Netting 73 fig trees is a bit more than just1 bush to worry about.

My brown turkey produces fruit that tastes as much like a peach as a fresh peach does.

I love my BT

Doug

My in ground BT died back to the ground on it's first 2 years.
But it has made it through the last 2 years winters without a glitch.
Maybe it is just my zone.

You will not win wars with birds or squirrels..
They just return when they realize your art work does not hurt them.
Elimination is the only way to stop them.
Or you can just keep feeding them and they return for that.
I have not had one fig bit into or stolen from me this year.
I picked 2 pounds of perfectly ripe figs in the last 2 days.
No birds that will eat them, no more squirrels either.

I have to be heartless to fig eating pests, or they will eat my figs
before I get the chance.
At least I live in a area I can hang the rifle out a window, and feed
the cats.

Yes, some say I'm wrong for killing pests, but at least I eat
all my figs. When new pests show up, I deal with them one at a time
instead of 15 squirrels raiding my orchard.

Pests have one thing on their mind, eating what tastes good.

I'm going to build a dirt sifter, but I'm going to use a old cement mixer
and cut a hole in the side to change out sifting plates from coarse to fine.

It should only take a couple days to build and can be dumped out the front openng
while the sifted dirt can be shoveled into wheel barrow from below it.

Sounds like you have a lot more to sift than I do. :)

Helps prevent rust. I would place for morning sun.
Very smart burying your pots. Keep roots cooler.

Due to walking issues I built this to take me to my orchard.
Many of the figs I can pick while sitting, other times I have to get off and walk.
Certainly convenient.  It has been approved by my sheriff's department and
the Highway patrol as a mobility vehicle, so I can ride it anywhere a person is allowed to walk.
I'm considered a pedestrian in my state.
Here's my fig picker....

Well I looked up a recipe for a yellow cake, added butter and brown suger
to the bottom of my dish and added the halved figs.
Poured the cake batter on top and cooked till firm.
What a treat with a glass of milk.

I would offer a GM8 White Bajtra but I just air layered it and I can't

Even then, I can't ship to california until I get my orchard licensed and inspected.
Then I could get the paper work I would need.

Subject: Pinching to get a branch to fruit: What varieties does this work for and what varieties don't respond with fruits. Replies: 12
Posted By: SCfigFanatic Views: 356

It seems to work on all my varieties with the exception of the trees age.
If the fig is less than 2 years old it may not fruit whether pinched or not.
A 3 year old tree is not producing I pinch it, and wait for fruit to form.
They always have so far.
Just my findings.

I think the trees age makes the most difference whether pinching is effective.
I also think the time of year and your zone should be considered before pinching.
Do you still have a long enough season to ripen those late forming figs?

Pino, I have left suckers grow this year only for air layers.
Now is when I start air layering. I will bring in some after rooting to grow
for the winter under my lights, then transplant into my orchard in march.
Some varieties 1 is never enough.

It might be a good idea to wait until the fig begins to ripen. Then hang the shiny object.
The flashing being new to the birds may keep them away long enough
for you to pick a ripe fig.

Shiny objects sometimes work for a while.
I found birds just get used to them and ignore them after a couple weeks.

Been there, done that.
Reflective objects do seem to work on deer though.
Only thing they work on for me.
All my tags on my trees are shiny, they blow around and reflect light every direction.
I still used to have bird problems.

Well, the second main crop swelled then shriveled up and fell off.
I am leaning towards san pedro type fig George thought it would be.
It's a earlier producer by over a month over my other figs.
I'm going to airlayer each sucker I let grow, plant 4 or 5 in my orchard
and those promised a cutting or airlayer can show off theirs next year.

Thank you Gorgi for your generosity sharing there varieties from Malta.

I will sell a few on ebay too.
If someone from cali gets it, it will be interesting to hear about the main crop.
Problem is, I won't ship to california.

This is the very beginning of last winter, trees in pots had went dormant.
You can see the new buds growing on the dormant one. They were all
leafed back out by spring and then planted in ground.

Another cheap option.
Warm white more matches the suns color spectrum vs cool white.

I understand what you are saying.
Just be careful you do not over load one circuit by adding too many cfl bulbs to it.
Be careful to keep an eye on the base of cfl bulbs, when they start turning a caramel color
they risk catching fire.
Some cfl bulbs can be mounted facing down, others will state vertical mounting and operating only.
Due to heat and heat rises.
Please use every precaution you can, do not overload circuits or wiring going to the lights.

Have fun and best of luck how ever you go.

20000 lumen will grow figs through out the winter. Full leaf formation, and
will grow 6-12" during winter months.
I do it every year.
Even the plumeria flowered under my lights last winter.
I wish more people would investigate just how easy it is to assemble LED lights.
I just don't have time to spoon feed electronic basics.

Those who have to actually deal with them can decide on their own
what it takes for the results they desire.

Over kill would have been hunting every black rat snake I could find.
I dealt with the problem one time. So I did not just hope it would go away.
Not many people have experience handling snakes like it sounds like you do.
For everybody to think or get the impression that it's ok to get a snake bite, seems foolish.
Snakes have their place, I just don't share mine.

Fear is avoiding the problem, and doing nothing about it.
Fear is calling 911 because of a snake in the yard.
Fear is being afraid to do the responsible thing to protect
your own family and friends.
Fear is going to be the ones running behind my back for cover
when I will be the one shooting back during a rampage shooting spree.
I volunteered at 18 years old to serve our country.
I was assigned to the 101st airborne, where I served proudly.
I do not kill snakes because I'm afraid of it, I killed it in the pitch black dark.
Because, It was not going to strike at another human, possibly my wife again.
Does that sound afraid?

I have 4 AKC Australian shepherds. 3- 6 month old females black tri and 1- 5 year old blue merle male.
These are $1200 dogs each with their bloodlines.
They have killed one snake early spring in their 40x40 pen. Even if I did not care about myself getting bit,
I sure as heck do not want to lose one of my dogs to a serpent.

Everybody has to do what they feel best to protect their figs and family.
My dogs are my family with my wife.

You can try nets, when or if they fail you can hang cd's or tinsel or whatever else
anybody has mentioned that works for them.

When all efforts fail and the birds, squirrels and incest's eat more figs than you, well
I adapt to whatever it takes to make it work.
This year is going to be more drastic than in the past.

I tame the wild feral cats and their kittens, they do me more good than anything so far.
But they kill, and some people can not handle the word kill when it comes to rodents and snakes and birds.

When you are actually dealing with the problem, your thinking may change to doing
whatever it takes to get rid of them.
