Subject: Clone your cuttings & never see gnats! Replies: 400

This has been so much fun.
First trip to lowes the same named container had diagonal diamonds.....
Turned around went back to lowes. A simple top exchange for the ones with squares and on
my way home again.
Couldn't stop there so I made up my sprayer assembly.
No pump mounted yest, need 3/4 x 1/2 adapter and I can test.
I mounted my legs to support the sprayer assembly and will act as a baffle while the pump is
starting up.
The pump I got was 300gph max but adjustable down to 175gph.
Too much? Not enough? We'll see.
The 180 degree pattern of the spray heads are back to back for a full circle pattern.
I can not wait to try it!

Here is today's progress:

Thanks Matt, I'm thinking of getting the 400 gph pump.
I use Gnatrol every other week, never have had fungus gnats since.

Ok I'm convinced.
So much better than rooting in soil or peat.
One question, what gph rated pumps are you guys using?
Some 400 gph units are rated at 20 watts....cheap electric bill.
I will be building mine soon.
Thanks for the great post.

I ave 63 trees, can you imagine how long that would take?
I agree with "realistically, there is no way to properly defeat this without some chemical/spray."

I'm going to spray all my figs with a spray during the winter only.
We have fairly warm days still while all my trees are dormant.

That will have to be my only time to do it so as to not hurt the bees.
The way figs split when ripe all get attacked by honey bees.

So I figured to plant enough to let the bee's make some fig honey next fall. :)

I used to use malathion to easily control scale on figs.
A quick spray on the dormant figs in early spring controls them well.

but there are precautions that must be followed.

Now I have bee hives to set up this spring, not sure how I will control scale without hurting my bee's.
Is there a product that works first try and is non toxic to bee's?

It does take great effort to share/give away cuttings for postage.
But sharing can be the most fun experience with figs as I have ever had.
