My unknown in ground smelled like cat pee earlier this year, during intensive growth. Second half of the season the urine smell disappeared and now it is a more pleasant, nutty scent. I may have become used to it, not sure.
A small potted RdB also has the 'fig smell', but other varieties don't or a lot weaker.
Recently I found a large fig tree hidden in a small garden in the city because i felt the smell from the other side of the fence and I knew there was a fig tree nearby. Its 3m /10ft tall so it must be cold hardy and I plan to ask for cuttings.

I am intrigued by the banana flavor of Izbat an Naj. Is there a European source for cuttings? I would love to grow and taste it.

Vladis, Serge offered to send me some cuttings if I manage to get him the money for shipping. I have Brunswick but don't have Longue d'Aout, so I am still interested in your collection. I am close to you, maybe a bit warmer climate. Thanks.

Are there multiple varieties with the same name?

The label on my fig says it is the red/violet-colored type.

Here are the links I found. Some have one of the photos, some the other. Another recent topic is about 'Della Sinyora' which seems to be the Spanish naming of this variety.

this site says "Varietà unifera, con produzione di soli fòrniti." basically single crop, main only.

the italian wikipedia site for figs has the names of the different crops

fioroni = breba crop on last year's growth
forniti = main crop
cimaruoli = late fall third crop

And here is how the figs look on my tree:

Doricdragons, I will add some links in the other topic. I found mostly italian websites, all saying it produces only main crop. I have 4 figlets on mine growing rapidly.

I have one bought with this name from local nursery, started producing main crop after I tried pinching in August, or mere coincidence. Figlets are already the size of cherries and are slightly variegated. I can post pictures if you guys want to see them. The name is Della Signora, and one italian regional dialect calls it Della Signura.

Pros around the forum recommend Ronde de Bordeaux for early main crop and overall 'must have'. Depending on location, it can ripen as early as beginning of August and since it's a main crop, it doesn't matter if it freezes back to ground level. I ordered a small one, hope to see some fruit next year. Hope this helps.

Completely OT, but Steve could you share a more detailed version of your recipe? I started collecting figs recently and also recipes with figs. Thanks, G.

These look like the Citrus Planthopper on my figs here in Hungary at an earlier stage of development, or something close relative. Do you see white waxy residue on the green growth? They feed on sap.

I ordered Panache seeds from this seller just to see how fig seeds work and an experiment in growing from seeds. The Ebay listing stated the source was Portugal, however the envelope came in the mail from Romania, hand written seller's address. Unfortunately I did not keep the packaging for evidence.

95% of the seeds were viable and now I have a bunch of 1-2 inch seedlings. Can't post pictures but I can upload some next week if needed. I know I will probably not have true Panache trees or not even the advertised variety but that is not relevant to this topic.
