Lol, Actually rafaelissimo I had already said that. End of story? I think everyone figured that out before you even posted. O.Ficus-indica is a close relative of a group of arborescent, fleshy-fruited prickly pears from central and southern Mexico; that the center of domestication for this species is in central Mexico. O.Ficus-indica may include clones derived from multiple lineages and therefore makes them family. End of story!!!!!

I'm thinking you translated "Higos" to Figs correct? They are in fact named "higo chumbo".

Is this how new cultivars come into existence? Do you guys think it is correct to change the names of cultivars. To utilize photos that do not pertain to the description of that being sold?

Here is an example.

As far as pruning, I wait until new growth puts out in mid-Spring before I prune.  The key in this climate, is to protect the trees enough so that you're able to get considerable new growth on the current season's limbs that will allow for plenty of figs!  Allowing trees to fully dieback here often results in poor yield which is why I cover them in the winter.

You never know what Mother Nature will do.  Even proper wrapping sometimes fails when temps drop too quickly and too suddenly that trees don't have a chance to harden off to survive complete dieback.  Then you have winters that are just too cold that wind up n disappointment despite covering.  There's always the circumstance where the trees are over protected as a result of a mild winter and often succumb to mildew.

Always a crap shoot!  Hope this helps.

Yes, that makes complete sense. Thank you for sharing your experience.

You have a very nice set up Figgi11. Do you prune your fruit trees when they go dormant? If so how tall do you leave them? They look very healthy. I have lots of peach trees. They grow quite fast every year. I'm considering giving them a good trim. Only problem is that the birds feed off the very high branches. That is why I'm debating to hack the tops or not.

I love meeting other fig folks especially if they are local to me. So it was very gracious of him to share his experience with growing figs since he has been growing them for 30 years. He likes to keep it simple, which is a great lesson for most of us. I know I tend to over think things. =)

He gave me a tour of his fig trees and we discussed how he grows them in Seattle. Check out the Video below.

Thank you for your kind comments Figgysid1. They always do drip honey as soon as they become ripe. This cultivar is so delicious! It blows out the water many other fancy cultivars out there. If anyone can get their hands on it. Don't think twice! :)

Many sellers won't ship to California. Encanto farms in California is a very good source for different cultivars. Also ebay sellers are a good source. Just becareful who you purchase from. Make sure you buy from a reputable seller. Check out this guide Danny wrote on buying figs.

Hey Armando, you might have a cultivar named Deanna. It produces sweet yellow figs. It's very different than the one Danny has.

Head start? As in plant it early in fall? My oldest Cdb tree is going on four years. First couple of years it was a very slow grower with very little figs to offer. Third and fourth year it decided to hit turbo on it's own. :-)

ISCHIA WHITE 2015 ---> It has a closed eye which makes it very rain resistant. Keeps that sweetness tucked inside the fig. They are like sweet candy poppers! I totally agree with you Richie!

Just added a topic regarding FICO NERA DUEMANE,  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/fico-nera-duemane-fig-7566607?pid=1288482266
Here you can see how a fig changes its physical characteristics as it ripens. Very easy to conclude that they are different or simply assume other factors play a role on its distinctiveness. Heck, I even post one with a quarter for those who want to get an idea of how big it gets.
