FICO NERA DUEMANE FIG: 2015  ~ Here is a good example how the characteristics of a fig can change as it ripens. When taking pictures of anything take in consideartion that lighting plays a big role on how the end results will appear. The photos I am presenting here are all from the same tree. I even added a photo with a quarter for those who would like to get an idea of the size of the actual fig.

Could possibly be. But then again I did seem to get lighter meat color from the ones cut before they where ripe. So it could possibly be many factors besides the added benefit of pollination. If you could be so kind to share those photos or links you are talking about.

It's a very sweet juicy fig. Well worth the effort put in to grow it.

I actually took a few with a quarter. I just have so many photos archived that it would take me a while to find it. Sorry guys, maybe next time.

Semi ripe Archipel.. Very different than Osborn Prolific.

01.gif  02.gif  03.gif  04.gif

This one was very bland in taste. So I gave it some more time to fully ripe. Ended up with a ugly looking fig that tasted so sweet and delicious that made me realize always give a fig tree a second or even third opprotunity before judging its harvest. I will upload that ripe Archipel fig shortly.

Thanks for all the input. Unfortunately I have seen most of those posts in search for answers myself. Archipel which is supposed to be the same cultivar looks nothing like my Osborn. Archipel is a very tricky one though! You literally have to let ripe on the tree to be able to taste some sweetness to it. Otherwise you end up with a pretty good looking fig with a bland flavor. Now if you let it ripe on the tree! You end up with an ugly looking fig that packs an amazing punch of sweetness! I will post some images of Archipel shortly. Both of a semi ripe and a fully ripe one. In regards to the leaves of Osborn, I will post them as soon as I get a chance.

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have experience or knowledge with Osborn Prolific? I have a four year old tree that is producing very delicious figs. Today while researching this cultivar I noticed it looks a bit different then the one on figs4fun Varietal information. There seems to be various different sources for this variety. For example the Accession at USDA / UC Davis, taken September 2007 by Ken Love appears very similar to mine. Which would make much more sense since my source came from UC Davis.

On Accession at USDA / UC Davis, taken September 5, 2007 by Jon Verdick also has similarities with the one I am currently growing. When looking at "2359" Accession at Figs 4 Fun, San Diego, CA 2008, 2009, 2010 by Encanto Farms Nursery. It appears to look like a totally different cultivar than the one I'm growing.

I would really appreciate, If anyone could help me figure this one out.
I'm including some images in this topic. Thanks a bunch! :)

Hey kkk2210, a while back I did a small video on fig Wasp. Take a look at it, maybe you can compare them to the ones you have on your fig. Good luck!

noss,

To be quite honest with you..... I'm here to share my experience with what I have personally grown. I've shared my source and pictures. The fig in my pictures is a breba . More of a brownish reddish tint color. I'm not quoting anyone's opinion nor am I contradicting anyone. Just sharing my two cents. It is beyond me to call anyone selfish for not sharing. We are all here for the same purpose. To get true facts not prove who is right or wrong.

Caramel, brandy, brown or even yellow. May have different hue variations . Hence every computer monitor can display colors based on the calibration the user has set up.

Would be nice of you to share your experience when you have finally grown those cuttings Tim shared with you. Since he is the same source of my Brandy fig tree.

Hey noss, thanks for sharing this information with me. I seen you wrote on this thread a while back:

http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/new-brandy-scotts-yellow-6366096?highlight=brandy&pid=1280146900

If you take a look at the pictures Kerry posted. You will notice that our trees are producing very similar figs. Seems both of our original plants came from Tim. Which he acquired from JR. I find it odd that a fig tree would be named brandy yet expecting it to produce yellow figs. But then again I'm just the middle-man. As long as the tree keeps producing these wonderful delicious figs I'm a happy camper. :-)

I believe Tim made a comparison of the two already. You can see a picture he posted. The fig was very sweet with a light crunchy berry flavor.. I would give it a 9 out of 10 in sugar content. Other members have posted fruit very similar to mine from the same source.

Dave read the ebay policy before you decide to end your listing.

Found this on Ebay:

Fees

Ending an auction-style listing early once it has received a bid can lead to disappointed and frustrated buyers who may be less likely to bid on listings the next time around. For this reason, we may charge a fee if you end a listing early. This fee is equal to the final value fee you would have paid if the listing had ended on its own and sold for the highest bid received at the time you ended the listing.

  • We charge this fee if you cancel bids and end an auction-style listing early without a buyer.

  • We don't charge this fee if you end an auction-style listing early and sell to the high bidder. (In this case, normal final value fees apply.)

  • This fee doesn't apply to listings in the Real Estate and eBay Motors vehicle categories, and the Classified Ads selling format.

Because we understand that sometimes it may be necessary to end a listing early, we don't charge a fee for the first auction-style listing you end early (where a fee applies) per calendar year (January 1 to December 31).

Hey Dave, there is a way to block people from bidding from countries of your choice when you are listing the auction. That way you can avoid any misunderstandings. If you decide to end your auction now there is always someone who might disagree with you. So it is really something you have to really think about. Hope it works out for you. Best of luck!

Hello,

I was browsing Montserrat Pons book. Does anyone has these varieties? Can they possibly have a different name in the United States? Thanks

Hello Figsation,

When you get a chance Google up  - Decline or Dieback of Trees - Known as Twig Die Back. Based on your own observation you can probably identify which might be the issue in your particular case. Hope this helps!

Give them a nice drink of water. Keep them in a shaded area for a while so they can recover from their long trip. Remember they have been exposed to all kinds of weather during shipping. They have also been enclosed with no light for a few days. It is normal for them for them to wither in these conditions. Luckily these plants are strong and will recover quickly.

Actually this will be changing pretty soon. Ebay and paypal are becoming separate companies soon. Instead of eBay forcing refunds they will make suggestions instead imposing instant refunds after certain amount of days. Making it harder for those taking advantage of the way the system is set up now. New accounts are effective May 2015 for all other ebay members changes will take effect June 2015.

That is a very good point Suzi. Thanks for sharing your point of view. I will probably stick to just "Buy it Now" sales. I have paid really large amounts of money on some auctions. In order to aquire a fig variety I really want. Makes me wonder how many times I have over paid because of dishonest members raising the prices. Glad Olya shared this with us. So that we aren't ignorant to these types of scams.!

Dave, I have purchased from you many times in the past. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. Your nice enough to not charge a handling fee which other sellers do. The buyer has the option to take his business elsewhere. The fact you are a reputable seller with top notch quality trees. Not to mention you offer some of the best sought after varieties. Makes me a happy return customer. Shipping is insignificant for the quality product and service you offer. Thank you Dave!

Dale,

Thanks, its definitely worth researching. There are so many things to take into consideration. Yet the outcome might end up inconclusive at the end. Simply because environment, medium not to mention handling of material can completely change the outcome.
