No way it's a Texas BG

My goodness rob's was good. Reddish internal with a layer of sweet purple nectar between the skin and flesh. Below is a Texas BG. not even close

i agree that keeping it Rob's GN , at this point, would mitigate additional confusion.

Rob had a mix-up, and Harvey realized later what he thought was the real GN was not, so the name Rob's GN was born.

I would recommend changing its name only if Rob is able to trace its true origin.

my brebas are identical to Gary's pictures above. they are so identical, i decided to not post pictures. so we definitely have the Rob's GN

this is an excellent tasting fig!! my wife and I had brebas and were unbelievable. too bad its in the shadow of the real version, but whatever it's origin, it is outstanding. i am keeping both my plants received from harvey. very productive main crop as well

great insight on this thread...I live in coastal southern California, where its almost mid June and still very mild cooler temperatures and marine layers keeping the sun in check. I notice that some of my figlets are dropping probably due to very limited heat and sun (e.g.., atreano has dropped 10 of its main crop figlets already). so I can see the value of having a versatile, resilient, and hardy variety like MBVS

how good is the taste? Frank (FMD ) in his recent video says its his favorite. Others also say its good, but smaller figs and inferior to black madeira. Should I pursue the MBVS in an already congested orchard of my backyard? i am leaning towards pursuing this variety...

thanks ALL sincerely for the feedback. i am planning to increase water frequency on the rob's genovese nero. i have also picked off all the yellow/rusty leaves "just in case" its rust to prevent further spreading.

Chris, thanks for the complements. I am already adding lime, but will be challenged to move it to a shadier area since i have a south facing yard and we are entering summer season as well.

thanks all again

thanks guys, would love to hear more thoughts on this....
so far, based on the above comments, it looks like more water is the cure. i have been watering all my potted plants one good drenching a week.

I have over thirty-five 20 gallon pots, and only this rob's genovese nero (shown) and khdari (not shown, but right next to the subject Rob's Genovese Nero) exhibit this symptom or problem. not all the leaves, but sporadic as you can see. They fall immediately as they get this yellow color with black or brown dots on the yellow.
i water just like the other pots, and i made sure it is not water logged - it it draining very well like the other pots. only water once a week like all the other pots s as well. there is a sprinkler near by, but i doubt this it the cause? Please help! thanks in advance

thanks joe.
I have a santa barbara peach and a blenheim apricot. I was clueless when i planted them 5 years ago about chill requirements. They require about 300 hrs each, and we have been averaging about 100 hrs each winter in my area.  So no prize for me thus far. But i have been doing my research and eva pride stood out due to its 150 chill hr requirement and due to its dave wilson constant taste award. I think you've pushed me to get the Eva pride now. looks delicious!

what a great tour again, thanks again for the time

I noticed you have some trees that are given room to grow and other trees in rows 3 ft apart? Are the latter trial/pilot trees that you intend to move based on results? Or do you plan to keep them that close long term?

Also, would love to hear how the New Jersey Red got flattened by the SUV...LOL

not sure where you are, but it recently started to warm up in Los Angeles and I am immediately starting to see growth after what appeared to be slow/no growth (like your situation).

Again, i am not aware of all the variables in your case, but I am assuming its  hardened due to the 3 month outdoor environment and especially the one hour of sun a day. So i would move it to an area that gets more warmth and more sun. And do not overwater. I use 100% pro-mix for my new plants that are up potted to 1 gallon size and I only water well once every 7 to 10 days. Key is warmth, light and balanced watering.

do you see any buds or leaves? Did you root it using the bag method, then transfer straight to 3 gallon with minimal/small roots? or did you root using cup method  and transfer only after strong root growth? 1 hr of sun definitely seems on low side, but maybe not? depends on how long ago it was up potted, and under what conditions (hardened leaves, etc)

Eli, i am in zone 10 in los angeles, very similar conditions to what you describe. i almost started a similar post a while back, so i am glad you started this

I have 20 to 25 gallon pots, 100% potting mix similar to pro-mix called proven winners (drains very well), 5 drain holes at bottom, plastic brown resin pots, and full south facing sun

I water once a week, yes only once a week, and all my figs are thriving.

I saw that the former belleclare folks watered twice a day! and I was worried i might be under-watering. But so far, no signs of stress, lots of lush green leaves, and plenty of figlets all at one good watering a week.

Subject: Sultani Fig = Fayumi Fig? Replies: 26

for those who recall Aaron started a thread on his sultani which was of Persian decent/origin. Bass, in the same thread informs Aaron that there is another sultani variation from syria.

The sultani cited by richie, eli, and binbin is the fayoumi synonym, of egyptian origin/decent.

however there *may* be two additional varieties, one from Aaron and one from Bass, which *may* not be the Egyptian fayoumi. Or are they?  hmmmmm

see thread

honestly, all my cuttings i up-potted with root formation/maturity just like your middle and right cups, and i have had a 95% or greater success rate. Your left cup looks a bit premature, but it may be the angle. Some on the forum may be conservative and tell you to wait longer, and it is fine to do so to increase the survival rate, but in my cases, your cups were just about when I up-potted and mine survived.

this is the lime i use. I do not believe it is of  "agricultural" grade, as alan mentions above. The directions do prescribe recommended amounts per 100 sq ft based on PH levels, and in the absence of a soil test, recommend only 2-4 tbsps. per plant into the soil.

if you go strictly by their instructions in the belleclare fig brochure (page 3), it appears they fertilized their container figs every 2 weeks with miracle-grow 15-30-15. so I am guessing they needed that much lime to offset the impact of the fertilizer on the soil. i don't fertilize that often, therefore i don't think I need that much lime. but to answer your question (i am not an expert), i think too much lime may adversely affect the fig tree

i have a blenheim apricot and santa barbara peach. both fruited for us first year in ground in 2011. nothing since...

its either no pollination occurring during bloom period, or maybe the lack of regular fertilizer . any thoughts would be appreciated from stone fruit experts.

the apricot started to bloom this year , and then got hit by a monster rain storm, so not too confident this will be the year.

i am in socal

Igor, thank you for the awesome cuttings. you even threw in some strawberry teardrops which was very kind. I live near LAX and I have never seen a capri tree, or maybe I am not looking hard enough

Francisco, those look exactly like the wasps I saw today! Lots of them! thank you for the photo and your comments. In your opinion only, do you feel that I do not need a capri tree? I am not an expert on fig wasps -- can the wasps be random or coincidental on a year by year basis?
