Subject: Airlayer has figs! Will they grow when i cut? Replies: 28

Do not worry, the air layer will drop the figs after you cut it if it cannot support them. The plants know what to do to survive most of the time.

Lol, you will find plenty of them just about anywhere along the coast and inland. Figs are weeds that are very difficult to deal with if not removed when they are young, they are not evergreen either so not that many properties actually have them in the prime locations.

Thank you for responding!
For the CA folks, when they get the dormant trees, I hope this won't be a problem.

James,

I was wondering, how different is the air inside your structure compared to the outside?
Will we need to adjust the figs to the dry air and sun?

Black Jack is a very nice little tree. It is sold all over Californian nurseries.
Ischia White is on a smaller side too and is not black, if you want variety.

jds,
Please don't make fun of a BT. The CA BT grown in CA and being pollinated is better than almost anything you named. It is a large juicy tasty fig you cannot beat!

Toss them now and don't watch them dying a slow painful death later.
There are many around that are much more fun to experiment with.
That's my 5 cents

Charles,

Thanks for a feedback!
Where would the rust come from? Is it common in FL?
It doesn't exist in California since it is too dry here.
I wish you a good luck with the seedlings! I hope you find a special one!

Is the Tres Num Prato fig a synonym to Sofeno Claro by any chance?

I have seen a number of caprifigs growing around the LAX and south of it in a park.
You probably have more capris near by than you are aware of. Almost every park/ golf course has one, as well as the parking lots.

Francisco,

I had 2 figs that appeared late in the season, they didn't ripen.
I hope to see more this summer. The tree is super vigorous grower and very thick.

All, the cuttings are long gone. I traded them in. That price was not real, you cannot price a really good thing :)
It was mainly to see who really wants them and was able to provide the wospy conditions.

I will post any fig development updates.

Eli,

Thanks for your feedback !
Great news if it is Hmadi. What is true for sure, whatever figs I have acquired so far, are different.
On your photo , the figs are pollinated , correct?
It seems unpollinated they look a bit different but still very good. It is a very vigorous veriety and the mother tree looks healthy .

Hi!
I will be trimming my trees a little and would like to offer the cuttings to the beginners.
I have
MBVS ( Herman2), RdB (Herman2), Scott's Black, and Giovanni ( similar to the MBVS but a bit smaller).
All black figs, very nice.
$2 per cutting + $5 shipping and packaging with attacking number .
I do not know how for how long they last, I probably have enough for 3-5 people, will update this post when run out.
Please, a reasonable number of cuttings for a personal use ( I will not honor 15 of RdB or so).
Please PM me.

Note : Scott's Black is out, all claimed

I had a similar question about the wasp pollination in September / October also. My Smyrna started producing a late crop at the end of September last year and none dropped. They look as if they were pollinated and the seeds sank.
The sure thing you can test is the seeds. If most of them sink, the fig has been pollinated.
Do this with many seeds, a very few might not be representative.

I am pruning my trees. I do know know the name of the variety but they are pure white and reach the height of approximately 20 ft. Easy to root from cuttings.
Different varieties you can find:
http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/databases/crapemyrtle/crape_myrtle_varieties_byheight.html

I can fit about 12-15 cuttings per small padded envelope. $1 each cutting or $10 per envelope + $5 shipping.
PM me if want any.
