El Molino is my unknown, still trying to find out what it is.
It looks great and tastes awesome. Do I care what is its name? :)

How long would it take for the cloner roots to get adjusted to the soil?
Do they keep growing after you pot them up or there is a period of them doing nothing visible above the soil line?

From the cups with soil, the cuttings seem to have a very short stall period.

Dale,

The roots are quite fragile, they may not like it hence an idea to ship in a bag with soil.
But I am not an expert on the cloners

Here is a question:
If one would want to ship a just nicely rooted cutting in a cloner, what is a quick way to do it ?
It is better to pot it up, wait and ship it after it is established? It is better to place the roots in a plastic bag with soil/coco and tie tight and ship it right away?
Or else?
How long does it take for a cutting from a cloner to start growing in the soil?

I wish I had any leads. It seems to be a Smyrna fig and very vigorous and healthy tree. Grows well in the ground and pots.

Is the Danny's Delight and Dan's Favorite the same fig?
They look the same and loosely have the same name.

I really liked it. It is not a pretty fig but doesn't split and tastes good.

Dennis,

What happens to the wasps when there are no caprifigs in winter but they appear in the early spring and the wasps get in as soon as the fig's are large enough?
From what I see, I believe I do not see the caprifig trees having the figs all the time .

Please keep the updates coming , especially when there will be something to show :)

I have not shipped the figs, we decided to wait for the tree in a pot to caprifigs and ship the whole thing.
I still may try the figs only, in a few months.

Dave,

I would like to ask how have done it what I did, for making 2" holes for a clone system.
I was afraid the plastic in the lid would crack.
The best way to cut I found is to run the drill in reverse.
Tape the surface well and place a piece of soft wood lumber under it.
Apply light pressure when drilling and go slowly so the plastic doesn't melt.

Was it planted or a seedling ? Did you test the seeds? Do they sink? I bet they do.

The owners seem not to care much about the PT figs, they never pick them up. You can see them falling to the ground and drying on the tree. I do not think it is precious to the owners, it protects from the people walking along the sidewalk mostly and gives some shade.

You can also use a cheese wax, that one is even better since it doesn't crack.

I asked my friend to translate, here is what he said:

It reads:
"Figs
Honey
Israeli (Probably because they were grown in Israel)
Half Kilo (Price) 5.99"

It doesn't mention the fig's variety name. The word "honey" is usually
mentioned in the Israeli market in relation to figs to emphasize their
sweet flavor.

It is planted by a house that is below the sidewalk . The tree is tall now and picking up the ripe figs is very convenient since you are collecting them from the top of the tree.

Didn't get ripe because it is too late in the season but the figs are large and looks nice.
I hope next summer I will be able to taste the real thing .
Anybody has any experience with it?
A very vigorous grower for me, rooted last February and is 7 ft tall now.
Does it go by a different name?
Thanks!

Subject: Fig trees ground vs pot Replies: 19

It all depends on your location and the weather. In the SoCal, the best option is in the ground. No winter and very consistent in terms of watering and feeding the trees.
In general, fig trees can be heavily trimmed and moved to a different location quite easily. You do not even need all the root mass, the roots will grow back.
In the pots, the summer heat is an issue and they need to be protected. The figs in them also go dormant much sooner than the ground trees because the ground stays warmer longer.

Good luck with the trees, they all produced last summer ( except the cupped one) and should produce next.

I talked to our local landscapers and gardeners, they just gave the pots for free since after planting they all go to trash . Also, a hydroponic store nearby sells new and used pots, the used ones are very cheap and almost clean.

Yes, I have done it. I grafted pencil thick cuttings to a rooted 1 inch cutting successfully. They still on and produced last summer. I used a bark graft.
Check for posts by Grasa, she has done a few as well.

After grafting I potted up the hole thing to grow.

Jennifer,

It seems the BM needs some humidity to ripen nicely too.
I am in SoCal in a very dry climate. I have enough heat until November but it is so dry that all my BM figs had walnut hard shells .
Yes, it ripened but I would trade any better fig for it since the figs hang on for too long.

Frank,
In the PT section, where you posted the Rob's photos, the fig next to the palm trees is a Black fig (not very good one).
This is the photo mentioned above by garden.
The left photo is of PT.

How did the PT fruit looked inside for you? Was it intense red also?

Guys,
What is the shortest cutting that can be used in a cloner?
It seems one would need 3 or so inches under the lid.

The tag says "Panachee Tiger fig".
This is the first planted fig I found, they treat all figs as weeds and pull them out as soon as one appears (mostly the bird droppings).
