Hey John, wanted to update you on your cuttings. I had 4 going at one point but after forgetting to bring them out of the garage during a strong heat wave, I lost 3 of them and the 4th one was almost done in. It recovered nicely, little slow grower but it's doing well.

Hey Shawn. This is a pic taken of my VdB last week. Super close nodes that just seems to be last year's growth, might spread out, might not, who knows. As long as it's productive, I wouldn't mind. I've also noticed that that little area is great for rooting or airlayering.

Nice looking VDB. I have 7 TC plants, 2 of them are VDB. I'm gonna do 2 experiments with them, airlayer a couple pants from them and also try to root cuttings from it at the end if the growing season. I remember reading about someone having better luck with cuttings from aTC then the actual plant. Not expecting fruit from them this year but we'll see. Anyone else read about TC cuttings?

THERE IT IS!!!
Great pics Igor but they really don't give the tree justice, not taking anything away from your photographic skills of course, haha. This is a beautiful tree, the size of the trunk alone makes you go nuts wondering how old this beast could be.
Hopefully we'll be able to get some info on it soon, more than just the color and taste. Unless that house had been in the family for generations, we might not know where it came from or the age.

Here's a pic that has those black tips that never developed when the shoot had a growth spurt. Sorry for the blurry pic, and why does it always post sideways?!?!

Joe: Don't worry too much about those, those are actually the leaf buds. If they are black and dry, they'll fall of with the shoot growth and new ones will develop. If you start seeing themturn a dark purple or reddish, that means they'll leaf out. The more important thing to look at is the actual plant, if it's green and firm then it's doing good. Just like with figs, you gotta be patient.

Here's a small cutting I started last summer, the cutting itself is in horrible shape but those reddish tips give me hope, haha.

Right now I'm watering by hand till I set up an irrigation system. It's a row of 6 trees along that wall. I dug around the base of the tree to give it a lower water level before I covered them with the bark.

Hey Don. It has about 3 little suckers that just popped out within the last week, I might just let them grow enough to airlayer a couple to gift out.

My first in ground fig, I bought this Black Jack last summer and so looking forward to it's figs. I think it liked the spot. I first transplanted it on 3/11/15 and now it has few new branches. Only gonna let it grow 8ft wide.

I have a few cuttings left over: 1 package...

2 Golden Celeste (could be cut in half)
3 White Texas Everbearing (@ 6in long each)
1 VDB (kinda thin, could also be cut in half)

Not selling them, just pay for shipping. How does $6 sound?
Trades welcome also ;-)

Curious to know what is your earliest and latest producing variety of the growing season. Had a quick exchange with Igor about this yesterday. This will be my second summer with figs and would like an idea of good producing varieties fit years to come. Last year I only had Black Jack,  Brown Turkey and Kadota.

Welcome to the forum Grace... Greetings from Cal...
They don't look that bad to me but I'm not that experienced. Comparing yours to others in cold weather areas, they look great.
As far as identifying, seeing pics of ripened fruit along with the leaves seems to be the safest way to identify.

I do this when rooting plumerias in 1 gal pots, I sit them on a saucer that has atleast an inch spacing all around. I'm definitely trying it with my figs in smaller containers. I remember reading a post on here on why it's a bad thing but don't remember why. The only issue I would see is how often to water, my plumerias get watered once a week in the hot days of summer. I might start off with clear 32oz. cups and hopefully can gauge how wet the top will get.

Hey JD. So I was curious about the final product myself so went back after work and took a few pics, I found two more smaller fig trees also. I drove upto the office to get more info on the pruning classes and was surprised at how big this compound really is. What I had only seen was about a quarter of the place. Little background on it, it was a working ranch in the early 1900's then a seminary from around 1924 to the late 60's or early 70's, now it's a museum open to the public so access to the ground is permissible. They offer bird walks, gardening classes and tours of the ranch. The first pic is the finished result of the tree, and the two smaller trees.. Btw, I couldn't help myself and took 2 small cuttings.

I could tell none of them were of "our" people (fig lovers) so I'm sure she'd give me piles of them but I'm upto my elbows with unkowns so I didn't ask. Whatever it is, at this size they should be good but I'll wait on it.

On my way back to work from my lunch break I drove by this seminary in Carson, ca. It was always hard to see in since the walls were 4ft thick bushes but this past year all were removed so it's easier to see inside the grounds, looks like a campsite/park. I knew there were fruit trees in the compound from being so close to the street, pomegranate, persimmon and some stone fruit. As I drove by I noticed a group gathered around one particular tree with ladders out and I instantly turned around, I figured it was some kind of pruning class. As I was walking up to the group I realized it was a FIG TREE! The lady in charge intercepted me and I asked if I could watch for a bit and she kindly said yes. Unfortunately she had no idea what variety of fig it was only that is was a dark color. All I was thinking as I stood there was how I would prune this monster down, haha. Turns out the class was a mix of diy gardeners and some college students from a local school on a horticulture field trip. Had a nice conversation with the teacher and went back to work, I think he learned more about figs from me in ten mins then he previously knew. You know where I'll be during my lunch breaks when summer comes, MUAHAHAHA...

Hey Luigi. Mold is never a good thing, just clean it off. I use a simple soft tooth brush and lightly brush it off, others will chime in on their own methods. Your chamber might be a bit too humid.

The way I see it is that it's a privilege to be on this forum, the info you can find is endless and super useful. If this were a workplace and acted a fool I'd expect to be fired. This is your workplace, respect it. These are your co-workers, respect them. You don't like their comments, ignore them.
I don't know the whole story and to be honest, I don't care. Not to sound rude but that's my take on it. I'm here to learn not to take sides. I've learned so much already because of the forum but more from my own trial and error, the ideas are here and you just need to apply them for your own needs.
As far as the ban goes, I don't have an issue with it. I'm sure they are all great people but not all of us are meant to get along. I've personally have met Aaron and I can say he's a stand up guy, and those that have met the others involved will say the same so lets just say they're all good people with strong with their own ideas. And maybe a bit stubborn, HA!
I don't care how much knowledge I have about figs (not much) but I check my ego at the door. Like I said, it's a privilege to be here. And remember, this forum was here before you and will be here after and not skip a beat, ACT COOL...

Hey Danny, those cuttings look strong. In the pic it looks like you're just using a plastic bin right. Do you cover it in any way to create some humidity?
