Lolita- Your discussion has merit but it should be in a thread started about your topic.  What you have done is called "hijacking".

I have not bought anything from the ebay seller nor do I have any connection to the seller but I think you need to discuss why you think it is a "fake" as opposed to a flat statement that it is a fake with no justification to support the comment.

If you have questions on a purchase, it should be discussed before the purchase, not after.

Just saying.

Mixed very thoroughly

Very coarse builders sand - Lowe's
Landscaper's mix - Lowe's
Cow manure compost - Lowe's

Drains well, almost too well

Welcome.

Specifically where are you located?  It helps to know so that other people in your immediate area or at least close can be of help to you.  They will know of any backyard nurseries or other sources for fig stuff.

LSU Hollier or LSU Gold
Ventura(for strawberry flavor) or Verte
English Brown Turkey

These all do well here (close enough to be neighbors).

Thanks Don.

For the best packed tree I have ever seen.  Not a leaf damaged!  That is something in today's world of shipping.

Texas Blue Giant is a real good fig down here, it is my wife's favorite, high on my list.  The one that we had must have been good, it was stolen from my yard, replacement is good as well.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE PLANTING OLEANDER.

Oleander is an extremely dangerous plant and you should know what you are getting when you plant it.  It is a beautiful plant and grows very well but please do your homework.

All parts of this plant are toxic, including the smoke, if burned.

I have them but I know and respect them.

I think you have a LSU Gold.
The Purple is known for being a slow developer with flavor getting better each successive year.  I have not been able to tell the difference in flavor between in ground and potted trees(my pots are 40+ gallons).

As with all LSU figs, they were developed for the set of conditions found in Southern Louisiana and anything other may have effect on the growth and flavor of the fig.

This one of my favorite figs, good flavor, large, great grower.  It will get better with age of the tree.  Two crops blended into one long growing season, depending upon rain in early Summer.

Only negative is that it is an attractor for every bee and wasp in the county.  This especially true if figs are left on tree too long.  This is a common trait that is also bad with LSU Gold.

It looks like one of my LSU Purple figs, the shape on one tree is unique and looks like your picture.  The difference is the short neck as opposed to a more "Top" shape that the rest of my Purples have.  The green shade at the top is classic LSU Purple.

I do not know why this is BOLDED.

A year or so ago I bought a tree from Bob Wells Nursery in Lindale, Texas that was labeled "Lemon", as we know, it has many names, Marseilles, Peter's Honey, Lattarula, etc This year was the first crop and it turned out to be something other than Lemon, the figs are all coming in dark. I went to the website and told them that the tree was mislabeled and due to the fact that I was going to keep the tree because it was too far to drive but that I wanted them to be aware that this had happened and it may have been more that one that was mislabeled. Below is a copy of their response:

Danny,
I am sorry that happened. Every once and a while our field hands mislabel something. I want to replace it for you. If it is too far for you to drive, then I will be glad to ship it to you at no cost to you. We probably need to wait until the fall to ship it though. It is too hot right now.

Let me know what you decide.

Thanks,
Rob McDonald
Manager
Bob Wells Nursery

There was no discussion of a receipt, a picture, when it was bought or anything.  The response was immediate.

This the way it should be! Any doubts who I will recommend?

Go to the website and check them out.

#2 looks like English Brown Turkey, a good fig down here.

Subject: Fig recommendation for clay soil Replies: 12
Posted By: dkirtexas Views: 375

A lot depends on the type clay that you have, here in Texas we have Red, White, Black and mixes of all the above.  Suzi is right, in most cases if there is not enough sand mixed in it will "cake" and hold water.  Digging a larger hole and using a "Filler" is like putting mulch or potting soil, or dirt in a reservoir, it will still hold water.  I have a white clay, I planted 12 trees, dug up 6 on the lower end of the lot to keep them from drowning.  The balance is doing okay, not great but okay.  I believe the main issue that I have is the cakeing is restricting the roots.  Since that particular area seems to drain okay I am going to go back and dig a ring about 2 feet deep, 3 ft out from the trunk and amend the soil.  I think mature roots will penetrate the clay but the young will not.

Disclaimer - I do not know what I am talking about, do your own homework and experiments based on what you find.

Mermaid - It always helps to tell us where you are located.  Tell us a little about the plant's environment, full sun, part sun, etc.  How often do you water it, when was it last fertilized, etc.

I think it is heat stressed.  here in NorthEast Texas we have had a record amount of rain followed by no rain and 98-99f heat so everyone's trees are stressed to some degree.

Move them to where they are in the shade for most of the day and see if it gets any better.
Don't bother trying to save the current leaves, there isn't anything you can do for them.

Good luck

Should I wait for the figs to finish to take the new trunk?  the new one is well rooted but a small root ball, if I take it now will I lose the figs?  I have been air layering for a couple of years but I have never had such a crop of figs on the layered trunk.

I received 2 TC LSU Purple for birthday a few years back, they never developed into anything, stayed small, never a sign of figs, may they rest in peace, wherever they are, the not so great fig resting place probably.  They are the only figs I have ever pulled and tossed, figicide.

The fig can look kinda bluish but I think local conditions have more to do with it.  I cannot swear to it being true to type.  I contacted Fannick's in San Antonio and they don't stock it anymore ??? They told me there were only 3 authorized growers of the original Blue Giant so I guess there some licensing issues on it.  Whatever it is, it is a good fig.

The Scott's Black is the fig with the RED interior.  No doubt!!  The Black without the Red center is questionable in my mind but the Scott's Black with the Red is for sure.  The rights to this fig have been negotiated with outside companies competing for the rights.

One of Dr Johnson's comments was that a Celeste grown in one location may not look the same as one grown in a different location.  While he was talking about Celeste, it would most likely apply to other cultivars as well.  As I said earlier, Maui is a great producer of produce, flowers and all Flora due to the volcanic ash soil and the weather.

Not English Brown Turkey, not flat bottom.  Not Southern BT, wrong leaf.  Really looks like a Celeste variant to me.  a picture of the eye would help to determine if it is a Southern BT.  If it grows good, tastes good, who cares.

Maui has some really great farm products and most are larger than those on the mainland.  The Pineapples, avocados, onions were the best, and largest I had ever seen.  I lived in Pukalani, Maui for 2+ years.

Scott was a guy from Michigan that was a friend of Dr O'Rourke who used to come down and help out.

As Paul Harvey used to say...."Now you know the rest of the story"

A couple of years ago a generous member gifted me a bunch of UCD/R light figs.  This is the first real crop and they are really good yellow/greenish figs.  They are not as good as the Scott's Yellow or the LSU Gold but they are a very good, large fig.  A real keeper, I was going to toss them if they didn't do something this season.

No pictures but there is nothing that is unique about them.

Don - good question  I picked 46 lbs in 1 picking from a Celeste that was only 9-10 feet.  The problem with this tree is that you cannot get to much of the tree without a bucket truck.
