This is a pic of a fig I picked yesterday. I would have liked to leave it on another day, but i'm under attack by squirells

This is a picture from a few years ago of the leaves.

Pretty much like th title says this is an unknown I picked up. From searching through the archives and database. I am pretty sure that this is a celest. The fruit was not as ripe as is could be, but this year I'm getting a lot of figs that are ripping, but staying small or animals get them...
Any help is appreciated.

These are the more dominant leaves.

This was from last year after we had some rain they swelled up quickly, but didn't change color quickly.

My leaves look like Mikes. Rafed I had noticed last years main crop that I got and this years Breba that they drooped and were soft for a while before they changed color to dark red. I think its because the weather was cooler both times.

It does have a smooth rubbery skin. I initially didn't think it was italian honey, but some pictures I have found show latarula with a darker flesh. Although the kadota from last year in the topic I linked had lighter flesh and the dominant leaf is different. I have seen pictures of kadota a with red flesh. I'll have to look at some peters honey pictures.

I should clarify. My fig doesn't have the berry taste of a verte. It is more honey figgy.

Thanks. I have had a verte. It does not have that strong berry taste. It is lighter and more fig tasting. I would say that the pictures came out a bit dark. The skin color is more like the picture with it still on the tree.

This is an unknown I picked up from my wife's grandfather. He wasn't able to provide much information on it. Finally in its third year I got some fruit from this one. Last year another tree I got from him was pretty much confirmed as a Kadota.
Here is the link to that topic.  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/can-anyone-confirm-this-is-a-kadota-6503698?pid=1279352804#post1279352804
This fig seems similar with skin color, but the shape is rounder, the flesh and leaves seem different. Here are the pictures. An help is appreciated.

Most of the leaves are three lobed.

This is a second fig the flesh came out darker in these pictures.

Sorry, I'm late responding! Thanks hungry jack and schapin. Hungry jack when do you add the nutricoat in summer? The last few years I have been buying osmocote. I have to check, but i think I bought te one that's lasts longer 4-5 month. I do use a liquid about once a week then stop mid July. I was looking at the nutricoat since it has a 10-10-10 with micro nutrients. I'll see if I can find the cal-mag.

My tree has both of those leaf shapes as well and not on a sucker, just regular branches.. I think it is just rapid growth and the true leaf shape doesn't form.

Hungry jack and schapin, have you used nutricoat outdoors? I looked at it last year and I'm no expert, but the instructions and discription sounded like it was ment for growing in greenhouses. It seemed like the soil tempt needed to be pretty warm to release and I wasn't sure if my plants would get any fertilizer in the spring months, but I like that it has micro nutrients.

That looks a lot like an unkown I had that was IDed as a California brown turkey/black genoa. Definitely not a good fig in our area. How many Breba have you had so far? I haven't had one yet.... I'm getting jealous. They either drop or sit and do nothing.

Has anyone ever oiled a Breba fig? Has it worked? I'm just curious to see if it would get I have some large Breba in the stagnant stage. I'm waiting to see some kind of ripe fig to confirm my suspicion of the variety. If i'm right it's getting the boot, so the sooner the better.

Yeah, I think they were getting away from that. When I drove out there last spring they jut said they won't carry it anymore since it doesn't sell.

I used to go to the agway in Englishtown/ Old Bridge. They would just stock it. Last year they said they stopped carrying it. I decided to see if any other just had it in stock and thats how I found Ferris. I figured one trek for the summer won't be to bad. The closest agway to me that would order it was New Egypt.

Ditto on the agway a the pine bark mulch is good stuff.my closest agway stopped carrying it and I found a good alternative true pine bark fines at ferris nursery in east Brunswick. http://www.ferrisfarms.org. Plus they are also an agway and can order agway pine bark mulch. The brand they carry is ground up finer, which isn't bad.

I'm using up what I have left to make up 5-1-1 mix, but when it's gone I'm going to just buy farfars 52 or promix hp and calling it a day. Mixing up and storing all the material may be cheaper, but it's a pain. Plus I had to call all over or drive way out to these places to find pine bark.

Ok, one down two maybe three to do. I think I got a decent amount of roots. It ended up going in a 25g pot. It looks dead pretty card down, but I don't care as long as it comes back.

They are an unk That I like, hardy Chicago, Mbvs, and a Brunswick. I plan to cut them back more. I have been cutting them as it's clear the branches are dead. I figure since I'm selling I will try to do them up and see. Since I would probably do it anyway if they are dead. Probably would look better to buyers without dead looking trees or stumps in the yard. Thank you for the detailed answer.

Ok, it looks like my wife and I are going to try to move this summer. I have four unground trees, they are not super big, so it should be as bad. They have only been in found 3-4 years. I think in an ideal situation I would take cuttings or air layer them since three of them are not uncommon trees. The problem is this winter killed them basically to the ground. I have seen some green under the bark a few inches off the ground, but no signs of life so far So, I figure since the trees will look half dead anyway, maybe I should try to dig them out. If I do this I figure I will cut back all the dead branches then dig around basically the circumference of the mulch and go down as deep as I can. Is this a bad idea considering how badly they were damaged this past winter. Does it matter? How much root do I need to get? I figure I will put them in a 15g or larger if need be pot with 5-1-1 mix until we have a new house. What do you guys think?

My HC and MBVS look pretty bad. No signs of life at all. My other to in grounds look a little better, but no signs of life. All my potted trees lived my unheated detached garage. Only one tree had some damage, but the trunk looks good. The smallest tres I kept in my basement were fine accept one. In in 7a according to the newer maps. This was the first year I didn't cover my HC and MBVS. The other two a Brunswick and an unk mt. Etna type have never been covered and have never had an issue, but we will see.

Keeping them both would be ideal, but I need to make room. I haven't seen many people mention differences in VDB. Pete, I think maybe that's what sparked my thinking to see if there was a difference. I don't have one from paradise though, lol. I'm thinking I'm keeping the one that grew like a champ, but it can't hurt to get some opinions.

I got a few figs from one and they were great. The other tree didn't fruit. The one that fruit also grew a lot.... I'm just debating if let's say my vdb from east coast figs would be better then say a vdb from edible landscaping or any other source so that I can pick the best one and keep it or if they are both the same I'll keep the bigger one.

Subject: Violett De Bordeaux strains? Replies: 20

Are there different strains or better sources (better tasting, more priductive or hardy) of VDB or are the all pretty much the same if healthy. I'm asking because I ended up with two VDB plants from two sources. I'm debating if it's worth keeping both.
