Thanks everyone for the kind words

Francisco  the taste is great, but the color is what made me get this one.
its unlike most other greek figs i own.

Vasili i hope all is well in Sydney.

Don   most great figs find their way to the other side of the pond.
i am sure this will make it there

Igor you might want to tape the eye.
the person that will receive them will just remove the tape...
i dont think they should slice the figs...
if you cut some with the wood cuttings on them they will have some energy to feed the capri for the trip.
a damp towel might help... but just on the cutting not the fruit.

igor i am guessing that you need the capri to sync with the common they need to pollinate.
so they would need to be in the same zone as you are or have the figs started in a greenhouse.

Hi Marcus
both of those are unknowns
they could be the same or very different.
here in greece we have many awesome named figs, but just as many unknowns.
i hope that helps you.

@ MJBARANSKY
that is not a problem, just make sure you water your plant so it does not lose all the of them but even if it does it will come back without any problems

Rob yes you are right.
wind and animals might eventually pass the nematodes but by that time you will have given your tree a good head start.
after the roots go deeper the nematodes will not reach them. sure they will take any roots that form close to the surface,
but the ones that are deeper will be able to suport the tree and grow happy.
Wayne did it without having that problem and so did Wills.(both in florida).
my uncle is in clearwatew florida and has not had any problems with RKN just by giving them a head start.

nematodes is a big problem with an easy fix.
just plant it with a big pot and remove the bottom of the pot
so the roots can grow out from there.
nematodes only stay in the top 50cm of soil and dont go any deaper.
if you plant the pot to be just above ground and the bottom lower than 50 cm you have solved the nematodes problem.

if they are long enough to cut the fruit (why oh why??? did you do that. hahaha )and the new growth you will have no problem?
the cuttings in the picture are wraped in strech wrap and its old wood not fresh green new growth. that is why they look dark. lol

costas if you remove all green growth and ship from say UK to Cyprus its a trip that the cuttings can handle. (about 5-7 days...)
ill send you a picture my greek friend so you can see what they look like after 20 plus day trip

ive used electrical tape for years with 100% succes rate. (plums pears apples...and so on.)
just have not done many fig grafts, but i see no reason it should be any different.

Subject: grafting tool review Replies: 41

nice job Richard. i hope you used grafting tape like you said or it will not take.
the union needs to be air and water tight.

ChrisK i think its early for you to do it.
you need to have the tree pushing buds open and then you graft.
if its a potted plant make sure you have watered it well the day before.
the graft must be out of sun until it takes.

good luck to all who try it. make sure you use the omega or the U cutter not the V.
the V is for much softer wood.

a fig cuttings can be grafted to any type.
you can do it on capri, a smyrna, a san pedro or a common
it will work as long as its in the same family group.

Hershell i dint put citrus in the 100% list because in greece they do bud grafting n citrus and i am very bad at it.
you are doing several per minute... i need severral minutes per graft. lol
you graft and make a living from it, i graft my plants and some for friends.
you are like a grafting guru... i play with sticks.

thanks

it looks like packing tape. grafting tape is like having your cutting dipped in wax, its easy to break free. please do remove that VERY, VERY, VERY, carefully.
Suzi did give you some great advise.
good luck with it
