you must pair plants with the same vigor
and it would be best to pair plants that do not fruit at the same time.

nice score figpig

Bass most of my plants go to the ground so i didnt bother with the mix.
i was just looking for a fast no fail method...

i just cut remove the neck part and the bottom.
after that i just cut it down one side so i can fit the branch through it...
after that i tape it up, add some large pieces gravel at the bottom so the mix can drain and just fill it with potting soil and sand.

Tyler that is a very nice looking plant
keep us updated.

Chrisk if i could talk my wife in to bringing cuttings in the house i would be a happy person.
it would ideal to just root them like you and have them
fully dormant...

i use them all the time.
this is how i root grape vines.
most nurseries here in Greece sell small citrus and olive trees in plastic bags
they last forever and can be reused.

Welcome Jenny.
you might want to start from something like this syko sokolatas.jpg

LOL!!!
sorry i could not stop my self...
i think you should start with any fig that is very ripe.
the most important thing to do is to take off the skin and if it has a thick white part remove most of that as well.
they will start eating it with the skin when they get older

i would love to view a step by step update.

Subject: How do you plant your fig trees in the ground?? Replies: 14
Posted By: andreas Views: 772

it depends on the shape of the tree.
i buy older trees but one nursery grows them tall
if i dont want to do an airlayer i just dig a hole deep enough to get the tree at the height i want.
there is no reason to bother with anything.
the trunk will root and you will have a stronger plant. ABCD0011.JPG

Igor i have found that for some reason the more i try and baby a plant the worst it does
you should see me with cuttings... its sad
now when i treat a plant like s#!t it grows like weeds.
go figure.

Igor I didn’t do anything more than mix sand with potting soil and fill it. Imagine the laziest way possible…  that is how I do it. Its open at the top and I treat it like a potted plant

its very easy...
in late september i did an airlayer'
all i did is cut open a 1.5 lit. bottle
add some potting soil with sand mixed in.
leave the top open and
water like you would any potted plant.
and now we have a new skoura vavatsika

Frank i have 2 cousins in Fl both dentists. one of them just moved closer to you... jacksonville and the other is in the tampa bay area.
they have built a summer house here and have some land. 4 year ago the house was finished so they got some landscape trees and i got them a tree that was their childhood favorite.
we have gotten fruit from the tree every year.
they only visit for about 15- 20 days so the rest of the fruit just falls down.

i have planted a fig tree in ground to my cousins from florida vacation greeck house.
(the tree is there  for the last 4 years)the tree is at 40 meters from the sea. i would guess that the soil is full of salt...
i have no idea what salt will do to cuttings or small trees

@ Harvey

Wife wanted a house on the suburbs with great view of the gulf of Patras…

The higher you get the better the view.

Needless to say my car and I feel like a mountain goat.

GOD how I have missed the flat part of Florida (all those great S.U.Vs working hard to go over a speed bump). ;-))

Thank you for offering though. If you are ever in this part of the world, look me up… ill take you fig hunting

@ Mike

I have so much water here, just like Florida

Fishing is very different though. What they call a nice fish you guys call bait. ;-))

My biggest catch in florida was a large hammerhead shark.

Largest fish here was just bait. Needles to say I gave it up. First thing I do  when I come over is  go fishing

@ Tyler

if you are going to get in a plane just to get away from the cold. Put Greece as your 3rd option.

Its been a long time since you visited Greece. You should take another trip over the pond.

@ ADelmanto

Have a nice trip

as far as Tampa goes
i can go to ybor city and get back to st. pete with my eyes closed.
other then that you will have to help me find you.... or you can come back to st pete.
