Gene, we have bee n unseasonably dry until the last 3 days. We've had 3 inches of rain in that time and somehow mine didn't split. I waited until the absolute lat minute to pick it and it was well worth the wait.

Here's some pictures of the LSU Gold I have...3 year old plant, bought from JF & E. In a 3 gallon pot. Taste was AMAZING. This was my first homegrown, fresh fig outside of Celeste and BT. OMG!!!! It was honey with a hint of melon. Not overpowering or weak. To all the newcomers like me, this one is worth a shot in your collection. I literally closed my eyes and thanked God figs existed. My fig palette isn't as sophisticated as many on here, but this fig is fantastic.

If anyone is traveling through the general central AL area I have several small plants I would love to donate for the raffle. I could meet somewhere convenient for whoever would be willing to take them.

Yes I put this together this year minus 4 varieties. I had a couple of members sell me some cuttings at really reasonable prices and I got some off of Ebay too.....my mbvs's are still teenie as well. I feed them rain water only and some diluted fertilizer every now and then...some stuff grows faster than others I guess. I have it in a decent sized pot so shipping would suck to pay. I could meet you at Petals one weekend. I'm always looking for an excuse to go back!!

It doesn't get cold enough here to kills roots but dieback to the ground and the setback it causes just bites a big one.

Just pulled everything into the laundry room that was out--6 figs, a sugarcane jujube and a mammoth pineapple guava...
@ Akram & Martin, sorry I couldn't answer I can't take my phone in the prison.
As far as BT being hardy, my fathers tree, which is around 10 years old, made it and is now waking up. Some of the younger growth in it is now crispy but all in all 95% if the tree is good to go.

@ Bob C, I did just what you said so fingers crossed!!!

Just when you thought it was over...since my in grounders died back to the soil line from this year's record winter, I wonder how much this will set back the new growth. As of right now, there are tiny green nubs starting to grow.

Any fellow Alabamians having the luck I am when trying to locate local figs for propagating. Here in central AL it's Brown Turkey and more Brown Turkey. Some are possibly mislabeled Celeste for sure but there doesn't seem to be too much variety. Plenty of willing folks that would let me take cuttings, though. But 9 out of 10 do not know just how many varieties could flourish down here. Any other suggestions than just hiitng the dirt roads and riding?

Yes the prices were reasonable...I don't mind paying the price for a good product. Ive dealt with RTN before and they are top notch. I thought about getting an Excel fig from there.

Just placed my order for Violette de Bordeaux and Petite Negri...not world changing news but I am incredibly stoked! From everything I've heard and read, VDB is a fantastic fig. And if PN is a sport of it, double the pleasure for me.

Merry Christmas,
Blake
