Lovely looking fig Sal, wow is right that looks delicious they all do.
Thanks Paul yes it sure was a good year for me got to taste allot of figs on my 1st year plants. The Bronze Paradiso is the top dog again this season, I also have a Paradiso "Genes" but its still in its first season hopefully in the next season or two I will sample a fig from that too.
Akram , I received a sucker from Paul earlier this year the plant grew 7ft this summer and had allot of figs on it I picked most of them off and only left 7 or 8 there is another two figs on the plant that look like they will ripen anyday now I wish I would of picked a few more off. Oh well live and learn.
Rafed lots of potential here, its only 1 year old its only going to get better with age.
Hi Akram, The Ficazzana ripened quite a few figs this season I received the bareroot plant this year from Grimo in late may. First ripe figs were first week of september and it is by far the best tasting out of these three. The Black Yugoslavian was the first fig to ripen for me from Cutings I got from Dusan last summer flavour was average but plant is also very young flavour was very similar to the Monrovia BT I had. This was the second fig the Black Minho ripened first was allot sweeter and ripened around Sept.15th This one in the picture flavour was just average.
Vasile to be honest with you I am having the same dilemma, they have been ripening one at a time almost a week apart not sure if its due to the cooler temperatures we have had the last two weeks, but I too only pick one fig at a time.
Thank You BLB for confirming they are not the same fig, I am gratefull to have both figs and will take good care of them.
Thank You Vasile out of the other Brown Turkey's that I have tasted this one so far is the best tasting one and is only in its first season so im sure with time it will only get better. The other Brown Turkey I have with the horrizontal growth had two figs that turned almost a burgundy colour but the squirls got to them before I did hopefully atleast one of the figs will ripen to see what it tastes like.
Ok Picked these figs last night from left to right we have Ficazzana from Grimo, Black Yugoslavian in the middle and Unknown Black Fig from Minho region of Portugal Supposedly.
Thank you Maggie, the very best to you and your family as well. Next season I will give little Jasmine her first fig see how she likes it.
Thanks Sal I am impressed on how much this plant wants to please lolMartin I have a few plants that are done for the season some of wich are already loosing leaves. But I have a few that are still ripening figs as we speak and most of them have been tasting quite good. Will I be rooting this winter well more than likely yes. Rafed, this looks like a promising fig for cooler zones as does the pane vino white Im sure you will enjoy both. I cant wait to see how it will perform next season.
Hey Jon seems like you been lucky with quite a few of your seedlings. I recently discarded my Anatolian seedlings and only kept my Kadota seedlings think the odds will be a little better with the kadota but like you said just for fun. What colour were the figs from the RajaS ?
Thank you Bass they do look very similar happy I have both. Bisirri fig has some history to it aswell wich is nice to have. Thank you Maggie for clearing up where the Bisirri fig originated.
Paul you absolutely right we are very gratefull to have such great neighbours. Thank you guys
Hey Paul yes Original source is Lou P. Our good friend Rafed was the one that gave it to me not sure if its going by another name now but thats what was writen on the cup so I did not change a thing. Fig tastes quite good an I had over 2 dozen figs on my tree this year but I picked off half seems like that did the job. Definate keeper
I was given a rooted cutting in late April this year by a fellow friend and forum member. By July plant had grown to 3ft and started growing figs. I was not expecting to taste any figs from this plant this year considering its only 6 months old but it surprised me, and cosidering weather has been cool and rainy the figs tasted quite good. First figs that ripened on Sept.24th
Lovely looking fig Leon, is this fig a late fig?
My Monrovia BT wich I got rid of produced extremely large figs, this was the first to ripen and smallest at 160 grms.
Herman sorry to hear about your dog I too lost my pitbull this year also 14 years old best guard dog we ever had I sure miss him. This year the stupid squirls stole all my Capelas figs thats the only fig tree they attacked and I mean attacked those little buggers bit behind the fig stem and took off a piece of bark and all out of all the figs I had on the tree. Now I have patches of bark missing on the tree and doubt it will branch out there since the Branch embryos are gone where they did the damage.
Ahh now that I re-read what you posted it was pretty obvious what you meant.
Hey Jon what do you mean by its another variety? Is that not a Black Madeira fig?
Thanks Jon, funny enough last year I got my anatolian seeds on sept.15th and oddly enough I sowed the kadota seeds on the same day. Hmm thats kind of weird.
I only have about half a dozen figs left on my Mission from Monrovia ate about a dozen figs myself and my parents have been eating them too one of my favorite figs to eat.
I too had the luxury of eating some ripe Excel figs this year at Adriano's they are big in size the pulp is a nice bright yellow and taste is excellent.
Sicilian Red maybe?
George how productive are these two at your location?
Herman not sure whats going on with the emails but my email address is " EDIT" Thanks Herman
Thank You Herman, no signs of fmv on either plant thus far. The Brown Turkey plant with the weeping branches seems like an ideal plant to go inground as it would be easy to cover up for the winter.
Herman like I said earlier if you want I can send you a couple cuttings this fall and then you can compare side by side.
Michal that first fig looks excellent, thanks for posting those pics hope your enjoying your trip.
Thank you Herman I had a feeling both were some type of Brown Turkey I do have both out in full sun for atleast 11hrs out of the day. Hopefully they ripen some figs as its been very hot the last week hopefully this weather keeps up so we can see exactly what it is. Will definately be keeping both for a while and see how well they do for me.
Hey Akram what would you sugest for storage for a person who lives in a condo and has 80+ plants.
