This fig is one of the last 2 on the tree. They were covered with organza bag and we had few days of hard rain. Today when i went to look I saw the fig started to rot. I cut it even if it was not ripe. Here are the pics:
This is the side who started to spoil
I peel the skin and you can see the pink is bleeding to the surface
This was the part who was riper

Thank you Francisco for the info. You are a gold mine of informations.
I went and put an organza bag on 2 of remaining figs. I am curious if they will ripe. They look quite greenish and not plump like the other one.
This year my caprifig just had a few figs and i did not have time to go and check the other caprifig in the neighbourhood and bring more caprifigs like i did last year. I did not bother to make time because most of my trees in July were just starting to show baby figs on them and they were too young for fig wasps.

Francisco, I'll keep a close eye on the remaining figs. Pray that the birds and squirrels will leave it alone. They are eating even unripe figs. I just found a couple of unripe Col de Dame Noir 1/2 eaten. Maybe I'll put a net over them.
No there weren't any other figs before these. I 'll keep a closer look next year. What attracted me from the beginning when I saw it grow was the leaves. This is why I let it grow.

Most of the seeds went down but there are some floating
This year all the fig trees made fruits very late so I do not think any will ripe. I have a lot of small figs left on my trees.

Thank you all. I am very excited to taste them again next year. I have 3 more on the tree but I do not know if they will ripe.
figpig_66
i can not tell much about the taste rather than it was sweet and crunchy from the seeds- which I like

Francisco,I still have in the fridge 1/2 of the fig and i could do a gravity test. I know i have to put the seeds in the water but what's next?.....
I still have the caprifig :-). I got a couple of cutting from another caprifig in the neighborhood and rooted them but they are very small. I also have all the other figs but they did not grow much this year.

I have a seedling (birds planted) and I decided to let it grow to see if it makes figs. This year made 4 figs. I picked one today even if it was not fully ripe afraid birds will get to it first and I wanted so bad to try it. What caught my attention when I cut it was the pink flesh. Have you ever seen this?
The taste was very sweet and crunchy.

I have another 5 very closed with this ( all are in pots) and the rest do not have any problem. Same conditions and the figs are perfectly fine.
Pino, yours looks very good and appetizing even if it's overripe, mine looks yucky and if I would let them stay longer on tree I am sure will be worst.
There is such thing as over pollination in figs??? In the middle of my figs I have a caprifig and I noticed that some figs from different varieties are huge ready to burst.

Mic, the pots are one gallon . I did not want to transplant to a larger pot before i left. It would have been to early. I lost quite a few cuttings before i left transplanting them too soon. I was happy they survived.
When i came home i took them out of the tray. I guess that for a limited amount of time it is ok to have constant water on the bottom.

Yes, Dale it seems that constant water on the bottom was making them grow faster. All of them had the same soil and they were on a timer about 20 min 3 times a week. There were no fertilization while i was away, nobody attended to them. I fertilized them when I left. All the others who were only on drip irrigation did not grow at all or just a little. I could not have constant drip irrigation due to the drought condition in California. I was happy all of them survived.

I was away from home for 6 weeks and I had all my figs on drip irrigation. I had double/triple of the same cultivar so I decided to put a tray about 2" tall under 3 of them so they will have water between watering times.
To my surprise those 3 grew much taller than their peers
Here are the pics for the 3 cultivars ,the ones on the left were sitting in the tray
The brunch for the one on the left, grew side ways but is much bigger than his peer

Wow, Francisco beautiful pictures. I have not seen so many wasps at one time on a fig. Fig wasps heaven!!
I went back to the caprifig I found with momme and they were almost all gone. I found 4 and hopefully they have a few wasps in them. I'll be watching them.

Lisascenic i have no idea but i guess you do. I found that I have fig wasps last year when one of my figs i got from a friend turned out to be a caprifig with wasps. His figs are edible and I thought this was a sucker from his tree but I guess a bird plant it :-)
Look around for caprifigs in your area and see if they have wasps. If you find a caprifig look to see if it has ripe looking figs on it and check them out. Here the momme are almost gone. Next time to look for them is June/July
Good luck.

I went outside and separate the 4 of them in water. It was very easy with no root damage :-) . You guys were right...the roots at this stage were not so tangled. Now they are happy in their own pot. I have 2 more to separate and i will end up with 11 panache pots WooHoo. Love them

I got about 12 cuttings of Panache mid January and I wanted to trade some but I was too busy to do it so I decided to root them. To my surprise all of them rooted. I was rooting some other cuttings too at the same time and did not have space to keep them in the house so I decided to pot few of them in the same pot. Now i have 3 small pots 1 with 4 cuttings and 2 with 3 cuttings each. The pot with 4 cuttings I put it immediately outside in a covered patio area which i transformed in a green house hanging some plastic sheets on the opened side of the patio. I even put a small heater and i guess the temps inside were around mid 50's. There I kept some tropicals. The cuttings i put outside did not have any buds on them at that time. The other 2 pots I kept in the house. The cuttings in the 2 pots I kept in the house developed buds and leaves faster than those outside. Also the leaves of those inside are greener than of those outside. But in the end all of them are doing fine....Here comes my question..
When can I separate the cuttings not to damage the young roots ?
Thanks

I am excited that I found a caprifig with momme and profichi on it, some of momme are ripe. The tree is on somebody's property but close to the street. Nobody was home and I took 3 small cuttings and a ripe momme. I am hopping that they will root. If not I'll go back to see if I find somebody home. I put the ripe momme next to my caprifig hoping that the fig wasps will populate my capri tree.
This morning I saw a wasp coming out of the momme I put it next to my tree.
and one of the cutting i took

Francisco, you were asking about my Lampeira fig. It is about 2.5 ft tall and I think the figs you see in the pictures are the main crop (on this year wood). I do not remember if it has breba or not. Last year the figs were huge with green skin and burgundy pulp inside.
This year pics...
This pic was taken last year. The fig is not fully ripe but it split and I could not let it stay on the tree any longer.

Francisco, you are so right about protecting the wasps. Probably as you were writing the post I was in the yard checking my wasps and taking pictures. I saw 2 tiny golden things on one of the capri figs and I thought are seeds. When I looked at the picture and magnifying them I saw a dead fig wasp and a spider mite. Here are the pics...

Thank you Francisco for advise and all the info. The small fig is not on the capri fig :-( it is on a black unknown fig I have next to the capri fig. Unfortunately I only have 3 trees with figs on them at this time. I have 3 more varieties (Col de Dame noir, Grosse Monstreuse de Lipari and a Panache) but they just started to put out figs and they are too small for fig wasps. All my figs are way behind due to luck of TLC while I was gone during the month of May and most of June :-(

After I found out that I have a capri fig and fig wasps I go and check on them few times a day to see if they will pollinate the other figs I have next to it (2 unknown and 1 Lampiera ). A few days ago I caught few fig wasps working to get inside some of my figs.
I am glad that I saw the wasps before I decided to get rid of my capri fig.

Thank you Francisco, for the info. I do not know anybody who might have these varieties but i will keep an eye on them.
The varieties I have around that capri fig tree are 4 unknown and a Lampiera. Out of these, only 3 of them have some young figs on them. The other fig trees just started to show fig buds on them.
What's the size of a fig, a fig wasp can enter?

I am very, very happy to see the fig wasps. I have 5-6 young fig trees around this fig tree so I am looking forward to see
and taste
the figs on them.
This is the first year when i see the fig wasps since I move to this house about 10 years ago . I thought I do not have them. When I moved here the house had a fig tree who made figs and never ripe, they remain hard on the tree even during the winter. I did not know anything about fig trees and after a few years of frustration that i can not eat figs I joined this forum and find out that i have a capri fig. I looked for fig wasps and did not find any at that time so I cut the tree down.
Francisco those figs look soooo good. Makes my mouth watery.
Thanks everyone.

I went back to the figs and saw another 3 on the the figs. The one on my finger did not has wings but the other 3 on the figs have wings.
Are these fig wasps?

If my friend's fig is a common fig tree ( I ate figs from it) how come a sucker (mine) from it be a capri fig?
If indeed is a capti fig what do I do with it? Get rid of it? I did not see any fig wasps around here.

I got this fig from a friend 2 years ago. It was a sucker from her tree. Last year had 1-2 figs but they dropped. This year it was the first fig who made figs and had quite a few. I was looking forward to taste them. I was away from home since mid May and when i came back part of the figs looked like they are going to ripe. They are squishy and when I open some up they are dry inside. The tree is about 4-5' tall and is in a 15 gal pot with drip irrigation (I install it before I left).
Is this lack of water or is this a Capri fig ?

Like the others said it's probably too much water. If you do not want to disturb the roots your best bet is to put a wick in the bottom hole.
Routing ,I am interested in that technique to rehydrate a cutting. I have a couple of cuttings who need rehydrating. I'll send you a pm
