Hey Bass,  just to let you know, we have native pawpaw all the way down in South Louisiana.  You can find them along the Mississippi river.  LSU also does alot of work with pawpaw.

Hey Noss,

There is so much to see if you just stop and look for it.  Some people never take notice of the wildlife around them.  Yesterday for my lunch break I sat next to a bayou and watched a couple of birds hunt for small fish.  Then one of them tried to grab a small turtle, but the turtle got away.  Lucky turtle!  You can learn alot from watching nature.

The small skinny ones are not really dragonflies.  They are called damselflies.  That is a nice picture of one.

I have ORourke from LSU.  If you are interested in one let me know.  It is my understanding that most if not all improved celeste out there are a product of ORourke breeding program at LSU.  The one they call ORourke was the one they liked the most, but there are others from that cross.  Infact, the reason they called one of them ORourke was to distinguish it from the other improved Celeste that leaked out.

The figs look like hunt, but the leaves don't really look the same.

I am confused.  Is this a picture of a fig on the same tree the blue fig was on, or is this a different tree.  This fig looks like a celeste, but that blue fig sure did not look like any celeste I have ever seen.

The first picture is the dominant leaf on my O'Rourke. The second is another improved Celeste that I have. 1/2 of the leaves are lobed and the other 3-lobed. None of them ever 5-lobed. There are a few improved Celestes out there.

U-Go, I like that Gene.  I will be going back in a week or so to get a better idea of the fig.  It seems to be a good fig that ripens over a long period of time, so it could extend our season.  The owner likes this fig alot, and he knows a good fig.  He has native black, smith, hardy chicago, and a few others.  He also has a small black one that is supposed to be great.  It looks like a black celeste.  The inside is dark red.  I love finding new figs.

I came across this tree a few days ago.  The figs are just starting to rippen here in South Louisiana which means this is a late ripener. The owner of the tree used to be good friends with Thomas Becnel. He said the tree came from cuttings brought over from Yugoslavia. Its a sweet fig and very productive.

Here is the picture of the LSU Marseilles. The interior looks a little different because I pulled it apart instead of cutting it, but you can see they are the same.

If this is the same fig that LSU calls Marseilles then I would say they are ripe.  They have a really good seed crunch and are sweeter than they look.  They stay white inside even when fully ripe.  I will try to post a picture of the LSU fig tomorrow so we can compare.

The interior color and the taste of a fig can vary a good bit so it is hard to judge on that alone.  I have only come accross a few Mission figs, so I am no expert on this, but the ones I have seen were not red inside.  The main reason to me this can't be Brown Turkey is the red stems.

The few pictures that I have seen of the smith fig looked different.  They where more green.  I have seen some with shading, but never that dark.  Is this common with this fig.  By the way that fig looks great!

Hunt and Hardy Chicago are the two best figs I have seen for wet weather.  I went to one of the LSU growing sites during a very rainy week.  In fact it had rained the whole day that I went.  Hunt and Hardy Chicago where the only two that held up.  What really impressed me about the two is that they both had great flavor.  Nothing else there even came close.
