Why are posts so wide that I have to scroll back and forth horizontally to read them.  Is there a way I can change this?  I don't recall having this problem until recently.

Herman and Nelson... I feel for you.  I dread the day I lose my dog.  I had no idea I'd get so attached to him.  He's a 106 lb hair factory but I love him.  He's my buddy.

Jon has totally influenced me about Brown Turkey figs.  I'm fairly new to figging and I only had a small crop this year.  They aren't sold often around here but we recently got a Fresh Market store.  They actually sell them and they had brown turkey and black mission.  Well, guess which one I bought because of Jon.  The brown turkeys might as well have been hedge apples... I was afraid to waste money on them.

I would love one.

I'll come up with something... whether that be to decrease the temp in the garage or put them somewhere else. 

Either way, I'm definitely keeping the little guys in the warm garage.  Hmmmm... I just remembered that there is a large closet in the garage under the steps.  It's very likely that it stays colder in that closet than in the main part of the garage.  If you open a closet in the winter that is on an outside wall, it is always colder than room temp.  That may be my solution.

Does total darkness matter?  

Looks like now is a good time for me to stop.  I hate that the season is almost over.

I'm trying to figure out what to do with my figs for the winter and I'm a bit confused about winter storage and dormancy.  My garage is heated to about 50 degrees in winter.  Is it a bad idea to winter my figs there?  Somewhere, I got the message that this was not good but I don't remember where.

 Cornmeal has natural anti-fungal properties. I make up a spray by soaking 1 cup of cornmeal (from the bakery section of the market) in a 1/2 gallon of water for 24 hours. Stir it up a few times during the soaking. Let all the cornmeal settle to the bottom and pour the clear, yellowish liquid into a spray bottle.

Those are huge figs.  What varieties get that big here?  (And still taste good)

Glad I asked!  My husband wanted to hoard the green buckets but that's just not gonna happen.  Green will look better in the yard anyway.

How does the FedEx account thing work?  Do you open a FexEx account with a credit card on file and when UC Davis sends your cuttings they use your account number for shipping charges?

OMG... those look good.

The skin on the Black Jack fig that I just ate this morning (my first one) slid right off when I applied a bit of pressure while washing it.  After the first bit came off I was more gentle or the whole thing would have come off. 

Sacrifice my first born?  That's all there is... there is only one that is questionably ready.
