I'm guessing this isn't on the shelves at .home depot... I guess you could use another material as long as it holds the mixture.

Are those bait stations something you make or buy? Last year they ruined almost everything. This year was a lot better. I had a weeks of good weather and no flys. Then I noticed a few one day and the next day it rained and it was damp for the next two days. That's when the figs split and the swd population blew up. It took a few weeks of throwing out any ripening fig and a bit of Cooler weather until they seemed to go away. I bought spinosad online, but by the time I got it it was to late.

I agree with the wind and other elements. I kept figs of all sizes in a detached concrete garage during some brutal years. It was basically the same temp in there as outside never lost a tree. Plenty of nights in the teens. I have even kept trees in a storage unit outside for one winter and they were not effected at all.

Annually, I cut back my trees pretty hard to store them in a single garage bay. My namesake shares the other bay… I have to cut them back to get them all in there. This year I am going to offer up the cuttings on the forum.  I am going to make a photo album that should have most of what I have to offer in there. It will be a work in progress, so ask me if you don’t see something and I’ll let you know if I have a picture.  Cuttings will be at least 6 inches with three nodes, most will larger 8-9 inches and at least pencil thick. Some are very thick. I will let you know what is available. Some varieties are more limited then others. I will try to respond as quickly as possible to all PMs, please be patient. The price is per cutting. PM for details.
Shipping is priority mail $6.50 flat rate envelope for 1-15 cuttings. $13.50 medium flat rate box is for 15 or more cuttings. No international shipping only continenal USA.

Just like everyone else's my trees are slowing making there way into winter storage. The big ones are getting a pretty good trimming to fit in the garage so I would like to try to follow the lead of others and offer out a variety pack of cuttings that would be good for the members just getting into the hobby. I am asking $30, plus 7$ For priority mail shipping in a flat rate envelope. Each package would be two cuttings of each variety with at least three nodes and at least pencil thick. Otherwise, I will let you know what I have. If I run out of a variety I will see what I can do. I will update if and when I run out. I would also mention that although I have not seen any FMV in these trees. They have been great growers and survives many all the cold winters thrown at them so far. I can not guarantee they have not been exposed. The offer is only good for shipping within the USA accept California. PM me for details or any questions... I will try to respond as soon as I can and let you know where I'm at.
The variety are:
Marseilles Black VS
Hardy Chicago
Robs Genovese Nero
Violette De Bordeaux
Lyndhurst White
Verdone

Leon, this is one of the other ones This has the same basic leaves. The skin is more red and the inside is lighter. Some figs are coming out a brighter red then in the picture. This one matches up to Sicilian Reds I already have. This fig can from San Castaldo Sicily.

I have two others from him one of which has the same fruit shape and leaves, but the outside is more red and the inside is lighter. That matches Sicilian red. This one does not taste the same. This evening I am going to try to sit down and post pictures of that one.

Ok, finally after years of having the tree. killing it to the soil line bring it back and every other mistake, I finally have some perfectly ripe figs and can take some pictures. This is a fig I got from my wife's grandfather he got it from another Italian in Trenton NJ in the late 50s. It was one tree out of 11 that he had, hence the number. Most turned out to be Kadotas or Brown turkey type figs. Only the tree that he has had either got 60 years ago are great figs. This is one of them. It seems to be in the Sicilian family of large figs like sals corleone, but the pulp is darker, the skin color is different and it tastes way better. It seems to be more productive as well. I'm debating referring to it as his name instead of his initials. Calogero Dark.

Ross, I believe conandria was a ucd breed fig or maybe condit...? Do you have pictures?

Thanks Leon! I don't recall any topics on the forum just putting this out there and maybe this save some space and time for people. I'll still keep them named with the original name, but I think I'll throw one in ground next year and one is a back up.

I remember  it coming up periodically about lyndhurst white and latarolla possibly being the same. I have not seen any comparisons with pictures. I wish I could have had them side by side, but finding the ripe lyndhurst was a surprise the next day. From what I see they are the same. The leaves and fruit appear the same, and the same variations. They also taste the same to me. There are pictures below. Also, both trees are from very good sources.

Richi, I cut down over 20 trees on .39 of an acre. My neighbors have lots of trees too, so this is the best I can do until they start taking down trees. I get way more sun then before though...

JF they are not that tiny, just a bit smaller then usual figs, but it may just be the conditions.

Lars, thank you for the input.

Does anyone else have this fig or know if it was every identified?  It was an Italian unknown that was passed out on garden web about 6-7 years ago. I don't know who many people got. Its a good fig and productive, maybe a bit small. Any info from anyone who still has this tree is appreciated. I linked the original topics below.

Those look like Italian black from durio's nursery. My tree took a long time to produce as well, but it was worth it. Last year was the first year I got figs and they were very good.

I think Pino hit the nail on the head. The fig forum just keeps churning supposedly new varieties being introduced daily, a lot of the same material being repeated, which I don't mind to much.it is possible someone has a new and Better solution to an old problem. Eventually though people get where they want to be with an interest and move on. I can't tell you how many forums I've joined and left once I got the information I needed to accomplish my goal. I know I'm getting tired of trying to keep up with all the latest and greatest. Now throw in the typical forum BS and people stop posting.

thanks for the suggestions.I'm going to to look around a bit today. I'll see what I can find. plains pine bark seems to be hard to find. The farfard had a lot in it already. I won't mind the weight to much if I wasn't trying to keep them on the deck. Getting them up the steps will be a work out. Someday if I get pavers this won't be to much of a issue...

Ok, I have a couple of Bills Figs SIPs. I haven't used them in a few years and I am going to set them up again instead. I originally used the soils he uses and the pot is HEAVY. I plan to keep them on my deck and I don't want to kill myself. I have had discussions in the past with other members and I see a lot of people using peat based miss with SIPs. I have been using Farfard 52 for all my trees the last few seasons and I usually won't add anything and its been working out good. So, any last minute recommendations for something better then Farfard 52 that is easy to come by, anything I could add to the 52 to help? Will it be good for a few seasons? Keep in mind I would like them to be a as light as reasonably possible without water in the bottom...

He is in NJ. I'm not sure about the soil. I bought it at a nursery down the road from him. It was just a big pile to buy in yards. i asked for mushroom compost.

That's what I Thought too, but when I've seen mushroom compost for sale in other places it was a lot lighter, almost like a peat based mix. I have some of his pots and I used the soil he sells. Although, I didn't get it from him. With that mix, pot, water and tree it is very heavy! I'm going to set the pots up again this year and try something lighter.

I bare rooted my tree today. It was a tough job. The roots were not as flexible as fig roots. They were definetly knotted up and circled from smaller pots. After all the mix was gone there were not as many roots as I would have thought and nothing really thick. so I just trimmed them up and straightened then out and back in the pot.

It's done the same way as Figs though? Is there anything special to be aware off?

Thanks guys, I really wanted to throw a tree or two in the ground this year. Our yard is such a mess. We need to level it out and reseed. I have plenty or grand plans, but I can't make it happen all at once. I was thinking if it's close to the house then it would be protected some and be out of the way for the lawn stuff, but I think there are some other spots. I'll have to see where the sun hits and a place that won't be mess up something else.
