I know there is a restriction on fruits and flowers also so I would assume it applies to living plants or parts of it, unless inspected and certified. Since cuttings are a part of a plant, it would apply.
Organism like scales are transmitted even from a cutting.
I have asked myself if it is "really legal" to ship cuttings from the East USA to California!

Subject: The best rooting method i found over the years. Replies: 60
Posted By: vitalucky Views: 5,126

This year I am putting a cutting directly into a plastic glass with (and some without) holes, in damp sphagnum moss and storing them in 71 quarts transparent plastic containers with lock leads. I keep them in a room at 78F. They have all rooted. Once a day I open the container for a few minutes.
It is simpler and less steps. I did not see any mold. I can see the condensation in the bin.
I will wait (patiently) till the glass is filled with roots and then transplant into one gallon. If all goes well it will be my method.

By experience, it is better to transplant during dormancy. When there is growth, it seems to be the worst time.

I tried a similar method and it worked well in September-October but when the temperature became unstable later in the year, I lost a lot of cuttings. I put the container outside in the shade. Now I keep them inside where the temperature is at a steady 78F in container stored in a 71 quart storage totes to maintain the humidity high (I spray the interior sides with water using a spray bottle).

I do not believe it to be funny.
I posted that topic because I believe it to be a good deal and several members responded saying they had bought from that seller and they were satisfied.
If you have proof to the contrary, post it otherwise I do not believe that it is constructive to advance false informations just for the fun of it. I have ordered from a nursery and received BT's and posted it because it was my experience and because it was true.

It is not a question of judging but at the beginning I was looking for references and later reassurance.
When we do not know and we admit it, there is nothing wrong if we inquire and ask questions around us.
That is how I found out about many good people but also about tyty.

My Conadria are from EL
The larger size might have been because they had only one fruit while Atreano had several.

Most people seem to agree that most of the very large figs are less flavorful: is it because they must have more heat to reach their optimum flavor? In many warm areas they have good figs so it must be that we should adapt the a fig variety to a proper climate in order to get their best fruits.
What would be his opinion?
Thanks

I have seen many fig lovers inquire about larger fruits but I have never found a list of figs that are very large. Without starting a polemic about breba being bigger we concentrate on varieties with very large fruit. Maybe we could come up with something with the contribution of the members. Please copy and paste before you add so that at the end we have a final list.

Did you ask to buy Black Madeira or Black Mission?
I asked for Black Madeira but the cuttings I received has a white-moss-like on the bark. A household in my vicinity has an old Black Mission and the bark has the same white-moss-like appearance. Time will tell. At the moment the cuttings are beginning to root.

Even a Brown Turkey at 1.99 is cheap.
The varieties he sells are very common in the South.
I finally ordered a Mission, a Celeste and a Alma.
Shipping is on the high for one tree but if you buy more it is an additional dollar only.
I believe it is the best deal on eBay and elsewhere too!

We should stay away from BM for a while and praise Black Mission or even Brown Turkey!
I feel the best figs are the ones you can grow successfully and eat them before any critter gets them.
It is supposed to be "Figs 4 Fun" and not a competetion. So, just enjoy!

I remember as a kid, my father painting the trunks of many fruit trees. At the time he used no chemical but only copper, sulfur and Hydrated lime that he used to prepare himself. Everything was sprayed but sulfur was also applied as powder and hydrated lime was painted on the trunks to prevent borers and also ants from climbing the trees and get to the fruits

I was wondering how long could a cutting, once rooted and the roots suspended in the perforated container over the water but not touching it, be kept; eventually some water soluble fertilizer could be added as the roots get close to the water but by then the roots should also have filled the perforated container.

Pete
In this case the roots can be out of the water and be suspended in the container: it works in hydroponic and this is similar.
The plastic glass cover could be cut in the middle (radius of the circular cover) to allow the roots to come out easily.

http://rootcup.com

I was wondering if anyone has tried rootcups.
1)It root in water, so it is cheap to use.
2)Can be re-used
3)Can be used for other cuttings than figs

The principle is the same as Sphagnum Moss: the humidity keeps the cutting from drying up and encourages rooting.
This method could be tried by using a drink glass (from 7eleven or other source) with a cover (to see how well it works) instead of buying the cups: the only difference with regular rooting in water is that the cutting does NOT have to be immersed in water but instead it can be suspended and use ONLY the high humidity in the container. It could replace replace the BAG STAGE and maybe even the GLASS.
What do you think?
