Navid,
I'm sure Ross can answer on his own, but reading his post I think the question he was asking is if your fig and Dark Greek taste sufficiently different from other Mt Etna type figs. Many people have limited space and do not want multiple figs that taste the same. I don't think Ross meant any disrespect.

Nice pics thanks for posting Vito. Besides taste would you say this is a productive variety especially compared to other honey type figs?

John, thanks for posting the pictures especially the La Goccia d'Oro. I also have this fig but have not had good success with it. For some reason I have had late fruit set and have not gotten to eat many figs from it. Last year I posted a few pics and I had high hope this year but it did not set fruit until early August.

Scotts Black has been surprisingly early for North Jersey this year. This picture is actually from last week. They have been excellent tasting and very productive.

Nick, I have been to Bill's figs many times he is a good guy but mix ups happen all time. The fig in the picture is likely Celeste or Southern Brown Turkey. The color change depends a lot on the weather so its hard to say

Nick,
Maybe others can verify but I do not believe the fig in the picture is Kadota, looks closer to Celeste.

Thanks for the pictures and updates Steve. Do you have any other cultivars that are similar to Atreano? And also do you feel Atreano is a keeper?

Steve, very nice looking fig. How does this fig compare to your Mt Etna type figs? Would you say that it broadly belongs in the same category despite the different skin color?

  Thanks

Those trees  I believe were at the Fairfield Garden Center, they were 3 gallons. If your looking for anything larger Bill's Figs in Flemington is your best bet

John, I should have a better idea next year. This year when I was away during the 4th of July weekend all the figs dropped because the tree was not watered. I really like this fig and will pay much better attention to it from now on.

This turned out to be a very good fig. Its from Joe Morle, nice honey taste and rich tasting for a white fig. Its definitely a keeper

Hi Scott,
I previously had a fig called Paradiso from Joe Morle (figtrees.net) that was very similar. I kept it around but it never developed a taste I liked, it was sweet but that was it. It also split very badly and spoiled. Your right that the fig in the picture was not completely ripe but if I had left in on longer it probably would have spoiled as well. Perhaps I should give it a few more years to develop, it has a few more figs that are ripening I will leave them on longer and see if the taste improves.

This fig called De Damaite from Raintree Nursery is basically a Brunswick. I was not very impressed with it. Its definitely on the chopping block list.

Steve, I understand that you want to get rid of duplicates, but consider the region we are in. Of course you get more heat living in Maryland than me in North Jersey but these Mt Etnas are so reliable you may want to double think getting rid of them even though they are so similar. I considered getting rid of my Marseilles VS & Dark Portuguese because I had Hardy Chicago but I'm glad I didn't because in the last couple of years that we had bad summers these types really came through and produced when other types didn't.

Hi Steve, thanks for posting. I have my JH Adriatic in a pot here in North Jersey and its loaded but I still have not gotten ripe figs from it this year despite the heat the last couple of weeks, what I have noticed is that it sets its figs relatively late, I was curious if that was your experience as well?

Nick,
Thanks very much for posting the videos, enjoyed watching them. I live in North Jersey and none of my trees have fruited yet hopefully with the warm weather maybe they will start by the end of the week. I know what you mean the last couple of years my figs also have not had the same intense flavor. I think the weather is to blame either to cool or to hot and humid like today

Hi Dennis,
Any updates on La Gocchia D'Oro? I think I will finally get a chance to try some from my tree this year. So far it has not being productive, but maybe its because its relatively young.

  Thanks,

Its that time again to decide which varieties have not performed well enough to keep. Which of your varieties are up for elimination this year?

For me White Genoa: Ripens to late in the season here in North Jersey
Celeste: Good tasting but the fruits are way to small, there are better varieties worth keeping

We are expecting widespread frost on Sunday here in North Jersey. So far JH Adriatic & LSU Black & Negronne are still producing very good figs despite the rain. Only Negronne split a little.

@ Herman, the big surprise for me was that my Mt Etna types that are usually the best performing here in North Jersey dropped most of there figs, I can't figure out what happened and ideas why??

Now that the season is coming to an end it would be interesting to hear from other members which fig stood out for them this year.
For me it was hands down LSU Black (from PFTP). Very vigorous, healthy and most important outstanding tasting figs.

Mike, thanks for taking the time to give your assessment of the figs you grow. Its so true when you said comparing the light figs to the dark figs is like comparing apples to oranges. That was the reason I asked you to describe the whites only. I know the taste of most dark figs is more intense, but I like you appreciate the light and refreshing taste of the whites. Looking forward to seeing the interiors of those figs!

Nelson, I don't believe so. I remember reading somewhere that they stopped selling it many years ago. But I could be wrong, hopefully someone who has the real English brown Turkey can verify. I'm leaning towards celeste or southern brown turkey

Nelson, it reminds me a lot of a "Brown Turkey" I got from Miller Nurseries a few years ago. I'm not sure if its a southern brown turkey, celeste or some kind of hybrid.
