Looks great! You've got plenty of room for more. My advice is not to go any bigger on pots. It gets to be to much to repot. Loving your garlic!!

Out and turn them over. I have them in one gallons but I'll transfer them to bigger pots. Lot of potting soil needed

Hi. I just planted the saffron in containers with 50/50 miracle grow regular potting mix and perlite. Just one question. Does the bulb go in tail down? I planted them about 1/2 inch below the soil.

Thanks Chucklikestofish.   How do you embed the picture into the post.  For some reason i could do it before, but no longer.  Only works as an attachment.   When I attach, it looks fine, but after it's attached, it goes sideways.

It could be a papaya.  The shape sort of fits with leaves only at the top and no branches.   Someday, I will have to get a zoom or binoculars and look more closely.

I don't know if this is a fig tree but would be great if it were. Hopefully the city won't chop it down. It's fun watching how big this gets. It is paradise here, raining almost daily but then the sun comes out and there are rainbows. Colorful birds everywhere and even some escaped parrots fly around. The sound at night and morning is truly tropical rainforest jungle like .

The wind in this valley gets real strong. It knocks over trash bins all the time. The trees here don't break easily at all.

Here's a tree that's I've been watching growing on top of a telephone poll. Been growing for about 2 years in Hawaii.

I don't know what kind of tree this is but this is what you find when you are a plant nut looking around for fig trees.

Every yr this topic comes up. I would say don't waste your time. It got up to 122 degrees here a couple days ago. Figs had no problem with it in black pots. Keep your soil irrigated and mulch top of pots.

I tried the boiling of the peaches but it didn't work. I ended up just cutting the flesh with the skin and putting it in with the skin on. Since the peaches were young, I think the skins were thin and not as tough and fuzzy. They tasted really good in the cobbler.

This tree is indeed from the USDA program. I have it in a very shady area which is why it didn't do much last few years. Only reason I kept it so long is laziness. Trees definitely get stunted without repotting. I can vouch that 187-25 is a great fig too.

Thanks. I don't grow bananas though. I cannot tell the difference between home grown bananas and Chiquita's. No need to grow when they are 79 cents a pound.

It was juicy and sweet! I've had this tree for at least 5-6 years.

Thanks. Never heard of freezer jam. I think I'll prepare like for pie and have them ready in the fridge.

The neighbor decided not to cut down the branches yet so I can snag some more near our fence.

I don't can because I don't want to get all the supplies. These are small sized peaches. These are good suggestions and will try a lot of them. Never had pickled peaches. I wonder if you can fry green peaches like green tomatoes. Most of these are underripe. The haul I got is just maybe 2% of the fruit on the tree. The birds are all over it. I really don't know why someone would grow this yet cut it down every year.,

Very easy to train pomegranate. They take pruning very well. I didn't get around to trimming mine this year so they are 20 ft tall, but I had trimmed them to about 5 ft tall last Spring. I have Wonderful, Pink sweet and Eversweet. I've hardly been able to eat any of the fruit because I have these darn bugs that literally pierce into the fruit and suck the juices out. Even after putting mesh protection, they go right through the mesh.

Have you ever had a neighbor that grows fruit trees but doesn't eat them? I do. There are so many peaches on the neighbor's peach tree that the branches have semi-snapped.

These pictures are just some of the peaches I picked today that came over to my side. Can you believe that whenever the peaches get loaded, the neighbor has their gardener chain saw down almost all the branches. It's a sad event and these are the peaches the day before they saw it down tomorrow

The bowl are separated by almost ripe, just blushed and green peaches.

I don't do canning but have always wanted to make green peach pie.

What other suggestions or recipes might you have?

Yes, it was greenfig.  Those seedlings are vigorous.  I should put them in stronger sunlight and see how they do.

So when your seedlings fruited, did you get an edible figs?

Both the figs don't look anything like the parents.   This is sort of the fun of trying this.  Hope to get some edible ones.

No the panache baby stems are not striped. I'll need to look up who I really got the seedling from. It was a member from San Diego. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly. Will get back to you on that.

My earliest fig is Celeste. I just ate my first ripe fig for this year a couple of days ago and it was very sweet. It was a main crop fig. Every year, it's earlier by at least a month or two than any other of the hundred fig varieties. I know there are a lot of Celeste varieties but I have no idea which one.

I didn't start the seeds. Greenfin started them. He had a bunch of seeds as he has the fig wasp. He sent me a few seedlings. I think I got them about 2 maybe 3 years ago. They do look nothing like the parent. The panache baby has pinkish stems. I need to repot them because they are huge for the pot. Hope to get one fig out of each to see if they're edible.

I received some seedlings from Greenfin a couple years ago. Here are a couple of the trees now. The first photo is baby of VDB. The second photo is baby of Panache. The fingers on the panache baby are quite long. Also it's the only tree of the many trees I have that have aphids. No figs yet on both fig trees.

I got mine from a local grower. He said no one knows about it or asks for it in long time except me. It was quite large. It produced in 1st season after I got it but all berries disappeared but probably not from birds because they were far from ripe. Still a mystery so I'm keeping an eye on the every day. Just took a picture of it. Berries have now turned from green to yellow.

I have a beautiful Che tree.   Lots of berries again this year.   Last year they all disappeared overnight so I am keeping a close eye on them this year.  They are only the size of peas so far.

I would love to multiple this tree without grafting since none of my grafts have ever worked out.   Has anyone ever airlayered Che?

What about the success of those Airlyer devices.   Anyone think they are better than simply plastic and foil?    I might try one if it is better.   I live in very hot and dry climate and need help keeping airlayer moist to get roots.  Should have started earlier, but there may be a few weeks left before it gets unbearable.

If you've got the land, put it in the ground.   Trees in the ground get huge so choose wisely.   The ones I have in the ground are enormous compared to the same cuttings still in the pot.   Something like 10x's bigger after a couple years.

Hi,  I have a couple people who've paid, but no address listed.  I've pm'd and emailed you so if it's you, please send address as cuttings are ready to go.

I have a more people who requested cuttings, but either haven't paid or you may have paid, and I can't match you up with your paypal payment.   If you think you are one of them, let me know.   Some great cuttings are awaiting.  Otherwise, they are going to others.

I have someone who didn't pay for Ronde de Bordeaux so have one decent cutting of RDB left and one skinny cutting of RDB.  If you want it (both for $3 including shipping), let me know.   Must purchase one other variety.

Just updated and added a couple.   The Green Bethlehem is from a church in San Diego.  They've had it a long time.  Only tree in their courtyard and it's originally from Bethlehem in the Middle East.

I've pm'd you if I'm out of your choice.

Most of the packages are ready to go, but too late to go to post office tonight (Sunday).   Will try tomorrow.  Will message each person when sent.

I don't really fertilize any of the trees with store bought fertilizer.  There is just some compost and wood mulch on both the trees.   The espalier was heavily pruned in the winter which is why there's tons of vertical growth.  That's what I'm trying to figure out is if there is any thing more to do for an espalier to get it to fruit.    The potted was also pruned back.   Will get pics in about a month of the espalier.  It's making a great hedge.

Update:  Fig Espalier - still about 6 figs;  potted 40 figs.   The potted figs formed way earlier but slow to ripen.  The 6 figs on the espalier started later but are just as big as the ones on the potted fig.

Searching for any more suggestions for more fruit.   Weather is hot, hot, hot.

So the count is now about 40+ figs on the panache in the pot. About 6 figs on the in ground espalier. Not sure how to induce more figs on espalier since having an espalier should actually produce more figs. I've resorted to pinching a couple verticals to see what happens. Not so patient.

Subject: Espalier vs potted Replies: 11

Yes the espalier is a panache and had figs last year. I pruned all the verticals off end of season last year so that I had all laterals to start the season. As expected, lots of vertical growth now, but no figlets at all. Not sure how if I should pinch any of the vertical growth since that's what is supposed to happen. Just saying the potted panache has way more figs at this point than the espalier. Both get lots of sun. Pot has potting soil with mulch on top. Espalier is in desert soil with mulch on top. It get regular water run off from surrounding pots and I'm sure is probably taking some of the neighbors overwatering.

Subject: Espalier vs potted Replies: 11
Posted By: Figfinatic Views: 693

I have two panache that are exact same age. One I kept in pot and another made into espalier. There are lots of vertical growth off the laterals and makes a great hedge. However, the espalier does not have a single figlet. Being in the ground, the trunk is larger, around 4-5 inch width. And the espalier spans at approx ten feet.

The potted fig in a 20 gallon pot has a trunk less than half the size of the espalier so that shows the effect of keeping a fig potted vs in ground. It has figlets at every node.

I would like to know from someone with espalier experience how to get it to produce more fruit? I thought just doing the espalier naturally produces more fruit.
