Hi Serge.
I like Brunswick and would like to see how it does in ground here.
I'm thinking on just having 2 or three larger inground trees in the future. That ought to be enough fruit for me.

Hi guys.
I don't have a greenhouse yet and with all the watering of the pots in the summer it's too much hassle for what I get. I might have to move too so want to lighten the load a bit.
I have one tree in ground for the last three years and that one requires very little work, almost none and it grows more and healthier than the ones in containers. One problem with that one is it is a late ripener although some did ripen this year.
I am slowly taking the advice of Akram... he said that Florea ripens first so it makes him think why not just have Florea.
I am keeping 9 varieties for now and will weed them out as time goes by and plan to grow them in ground all year. They are
Bayernfeige violetta
Niagara black
Florea
Desert king
Improved celeste
Mbvs
Hardy chicago
Brunswick
cicio nero

jrdewhirst,  I'm thinking that the two figs to ripen earlier were brebas as the Florea didn't set it's figs till later in the summer.

Serge, This is the second season for my Florea  and the pot size is 2 gallons but some roots did make it in to the ground. It's productive so far for me, the only one that does better so far is petite negri. The Bayernfeige is two years old and wants to produce figs at a young age compared to others. The Bayernfeige probably had a breba as the main crop is on it now.

Pino, the tree is in it's fourth year.

Jdsfrance, that little twig was a sucker. The tree is actually bigger. Any fig that ripens outside here is a keeper for me. Can't wait for a fully ripened one!

Tyler, That's probably what it was as it came pretty early.

My first Niagara Black.
I picked this one about a month ago.
It didn't have much flavour but it had to be picked early because it was splitting.

I finally got to try my first Florea figs in the last couple of days.
They were good to eat.
I had to bring them in the house to fully ripen because the racoons were in my backyard eating my grapes.
The only figs that ripened for me here this summer were in order, Bayernfeige violetta, Niagara Black and then Florea. No greenhouse at all.

I tried my first Bayernfeige  today off of my first year plant that I brought  inside to ripen.
It tasted sweet and jammy. It's a keeper.

No time to put it to sleep in my cold storage, my other figs in there are starting to wake up.

This fig was in a south facing window all winter and when the sun shines the room gets up to 24*C

I didn't get any breba's between the main crops though. We'll see what it wants to do this summer.

I took this tree inside last fall to ripen some figs up and then after that it started new growth, then it started a main crop on that new growth which is ripening up now.

I wonder what it will do this summer.

Hi Kristian.

I'm trying to find some of these in Canada to no avail yet.

From what I have read it sounds like you might be able to grow these if you start early in pots.
I've also read that the roots get bigger when the daylight wanes in the fall so you'll might have to cover them when that frost does come.

Here is some growing info:  https://www.cultivariable.com/?page_id=997

The taste was almost nonexistant and watery. I hope it gets better with age.

Ottawan. The only ripe main crop I got so far is if I bring my potted plants inside. My plants are still young and putting on new figs too late.
I have a back-up Dk in a pot so I might as well test the other one outside. It might work if I can cover it with enough snow in time to prevent the frost from going  into the ground.

Pino. My last freeze date is the long weekend in May. I hear what you are saying and want to get some early ripening figs to try in-ground.
A greenhouse would be nice to start early for sure.

I burried a first year Natalina in my flower bed last fall and it survived the winter and I exposed it on the long weekend in may but the fig on it is still in the waiting to swell period.  It's been a very cool summer here too.

Tyler. 16 figs. That's pretty good!

Thanks guys.
The DK will be bent over and covered with soil and snow for the winter. About 5 feet away from the DK there is a Latarulla that will undergo the same test. Both are 2 years old now.

When I got home today I found a surprise on my fig. A drop of honey. It was thick and sweet.
Less sun inside the house but the constant heat does'em good.

I tried keeping root pieces in the refrigerator during the winter and they did not grow rootlets until I took them out and put them in the warmth.
Below is a copy of a post I had made some time back. It shows proof of what warmth can do to fig roots. These roots went from my fridge to the top of my hot water heater tank.

I had put a piece of root in my cutting propagation  box and left it in for five weeks and it put on 4 1/2 inches of new root growth without even being attached to a plant. Whereas the other pieces of severed roots that were kept in the refrigerator crisper for about 4 months have not even woken up yet.

I find it amazing that roots can stay alive for so long and can continue to grow.

Below are 2 pictures of the still growing root and one of the dormant refrigerated roots.

Nice figs Grant.
Here are my figs so far this year. I just pinched them last week so maybe more to come.
The big dark fig in the pictures is the Petite Negri you gave me. I had figs last year from this one too.
The pictures are Atreano, Petite Negri, and Desert King.

Yesterday I had tea from fresh mbvs leaves I stripped off of a cutting. I just bruised and cut the leaves up and poured boiling water over it. Tasted great.
I'll have to try the dried leaf version but can't seem to wait for the leaves to dry.
