Good stuff thank you. They are in clear cups and I can clearly see the roots also it is an extremely light soil mix. I don't see very much condensation on the inside of the cups in the top level is pretty dry. My concern was just that the color of the roots is changing slightly but I was extremely careful not to overwater I just damp and the mix ahead of time and that's it

So I put this particular cutting in the perlite/moisture mixture on 12/21 and it was in spaghnum moss for three weeks before that - it has been in a bin with around 70% humidity and 70 degrees. I keep a colored cup on the outside of the clear cup to protect the roots from the indirect T5 light that is close by. If you look at the photo you can see a small amount of condensation on the inside of the cup so I know its not totally dry inside the soil although the top is dry. The roots just don't seem to be progressing to me. I feel like there's been the same amount for three or four days and they don't seem to be getting any thicker. Also, is it any indication of anything if the roots are stuck to the cup? Any comments would be cherished - does the color look alright? [image]

I've only grown figs in containers up til now and this year I'm considering keeping them in containers but putting the containers in the ground. How deep do the containers need to be buried? And, living in CT, with cold winters, at what point do you take them out without damaging them? Thanks for any input.

Merry Christmas to all, this site is completely greater than the sum of its parts, although it's parts are all individually amazing. I just lost a Brooklyn white cutting for the third time and am completely frustrated. I'd like to purchase a tree of this specimen. Anyone with the Bass variety who has and would like to sell one, I'd greatly appreciate it. Doesn't need to be big just well rooted thanks and God bless.

That piece is called a thermal circulator. Sous vide means "under vacuum " in French. It's a technique that's been around for a long time actually. When you cook anything, it's natural juices come out and are pretty much lost so this technique concentrates the flavor and you can sear it after. If you like soft boiled eggs you can program it to the correct temp and it will never over cook them, same with anything actually. You program to 120 degrees for a steak and it will cook mid rare and stay at that temp. Definitely a tool worth having, some of the best ribs I've had were cooked sous vide before finishing the on the grill. Good luck

im considering buying a few cuttings and would appreciate some advice. I live in ct(6b) and am looking at: atreano, Maltese falcon, vdb, rdb, Sicilian red, Nero 600, Kathleen black, black Bethlehem, and Lebanese red. It seems like some of these are quite similar, is it worth having them? Do some not grow up here?

I have a bunch of cuttings going, they're doin well but a couple have put out nice white roots and then they start to look clear and unhealthy. Its 80 degrees and 90% humidity in the grow chamber. Also when they put out the initial leaves the first set look healthy as does the shoot but the second set of leaves get dark and kinda curled up around the edges. Once the shoot is about an inch long and there's a leaf or two I put them under lights. I'd appreciate any info on any of this. Thank you kindly

I got a couple four node, thick healthy cuttings of an unknown variety that grows down the road from my house in CT. The bush is never wrapped or buried and lives through the winter. Last year a lot of the varieties planted in the ground in my neighborhood either completely died or died to the ground due to very cold weather, so I would say it's very hardy. The bush gets plenty of fruit but I never got close enough to a ripe one to know what its like, but the leaves resemble Paradiso. I'd be willing to trade cutting for cutting if anyone is interested. Let me know.

Don't feel bad. At first I had about 95% success getting cuttings to root, theyre all established now but for a period after that I just couldn't win. First it was mold, then gnats, but whatever doesn't make you go nuts makes you stronger.

Thanks! My figs did quite well, all very productive except for my goccia de oro variety. I don't know what happened there. It was the first year that I root pruned as well as pruned the tops so I was a little nervous but it worked out great. I don't think I should prune this year, what do you think? I'm new at this so I'm trying to get a feel for everything and I think I'd learn more from not pruning.

I went for it today, I probably could have taken some from a few varieties but I played it real safe, tho I did take a cutting from a cutting I started in December that had multiple shoots. Also I have triples of this variety so if worst comes to worst, I am covered. How thin can the cuttings be tho? Is there a minimal thickness I should shoot for? Thanks again.

I saw a video on youtube of a famous fig grower/scientist (I think his name was Ray Givens) simply take a cutting from a fig tree that was in full bloom, trim off all but two leaves and plant it in soill under a soda bottle and he said it would grow. Is it safe to do this? I'm more concerned with the mother plant dying than the cutting not growing, I always though it best not to mess with fig trees when they're in bloom. What are the chances if any that this will harm my trees? Thanks in advance, Luke.
