Yeah it's a c I said I was only doing 10 but exceeded that as I always do. Blacksmithing for this benefit the 13th has my busy. But the pieces I am making are beautiful and using many traditional methods. Look at that got side tracked. I kind of got sloppy with all the bags.sorry.

I make wine and planted this for wine. Made a pretty good batch. Would rather have elderberry wine again. That was the best I have made so far. Have to see how these next three batches go to see if I got a new winner though

Just when cuttings are dormant if people wish to donate pm me. When I get enough the grow room will be prepared and I will start rooting methods seeing which produce live trees. The trees are sold and we donate. If I don't have I variety I will add one to my collection for future cuttings and test cold hardiness.

As I have every year it is time to post some numbers. Various members through out the years at this time have donated plant material as well as rooted trees to help with operation A.R.K. or the ark project. For the newer members I will bariefly explain the project.
Project ark standing for random acts of kindness was an ideal, no a dream that is still a long way from its full. Climax but off the a great start. Members donations of bulk named or unknown cuttings some rarer than others. These cuttings are propagated by me and sold online and at local fairs and attractions. Percentages of the proceeds go for helping folks who need a hand and various charities. Food crops are given to local food pantry. The remaining proceeds got to keeping us stocked with pots, soil, and supplies, as well as paying taxes, fees and other expenses from this.

The numbers are
5,497.31 is the final tally of the funds going to charity this year.

That was you guys, you who donated 10 cuttings, or 500 ( anonymous) you know who you are thank you guys so much. Every bit helps.

A big thank you, turning sticks into cash to help others.

I have been working at this for over four years now. Not knowing if I should again this year with the state of things. I haven't decided to give up, but haven't decided if I should continue.
I don't want to let anyone down.

But anyways guys that's the numbers this year from last year's cutting donations. Thank you and God bless.

Dave

Sadly I have found that many methods that others say are their goto for that single cutting to ensure success don't work from me. I have a small collection of 23 trees that are all in ground. Baggie method has never worked for me, but has been a fail safe for alot of other's. I have seen a member do hundreds of single node cutting with great results. I myself have tried this a few times and I get about 20% sadly.

My preferred method is score cutting and rooting right in a pot with a small% organic matter and mainly perlite vermiculite base. Now I will treat the score cuttings with various rooting hormones, depending on what I have. Never use powder root agent. That's just me. I will try and pull some stuff up.

Moral of the story , you gotta find what works for you. Understand the mechanics of what your trying to accomplish and create the ideal environment. Under heat works. The top of the fridge is warm enough to get in that optimal rooting temp thus speeding the process. But moisture control is number 1, trying to hard or neglect being number2

I want one. How cold hardy is it

Woodville it all depends on who you ask. I would say the number 1 issues anybody has with cuttings myself included is moisture control. To damp and they rot before rooting. There's alot of good post about propagation a few years ago a search would uncover. Alot of other members at that time were all trying new methods, and setting up there own thread with their experience. Alot of information. Haven't seen to many of the old dogs on though.

Ok I got them all boxed and ready to go. If you want me to upload tracking pm me it will be a later time.
If you got a message from me about address issues those have not been sent yet. I said I would do 10. But we did more.

There will be many more cuttings in the future.

Thank you

I'm thinking the right rooting mix low on organic matter, fast drainage along with gnatrol would work great. But I also don't want to have to water 300 cuttings 3 times a day

I have received payment from 5 so far. All I do believe are spoken for unless some changes their mind. In that case I will let you all know. I am hoping to get all payments received so I can ship them out Monday. Don't like things being boxed up in the post office and longer than need be.

mike I grow all my figs in zone 6b unprotected every year just to see what I can still get a crop from. I had a hardy Chicago strain from hirts that did amazing until we had that bad winter a few years ago. the strain of MvsB that I got from a member years ago 3 of my four cuttings rooted and found a home in my hedge. I get loads of rip figs off of them every year. although that year we didn't seem to have a summer I had few but did still get some.

Its almost fall and winter time which means another wonderful time rooting cuttings. I myself try to do a couple hundred. I know some folks do more while some do less.

Gnats are a big winter problem as anyone with indoor plants know. gnatrol works very well for me, I have read misquito dunks work.

I want to come up with a rooting mix. light and fluffy, well draining. maybe a sand based perlite mixture. cactus mix. I have read put an inch of sand at the top.

with doing as many cuttings as I intend to do I want to come up with a method and or system that works with little effort.

so lets talk mixes, and pest control

I use cheep Walmart shop lights they work well. And gnatrol for fungus gnats, you can find it on eBay cheep. I would use lights but slowly transition to the sun in spring like hardening them off.

I have a 6 foot Meyer lemon tree, in winter I bring it in by a sunny windows. West facing is the best I can come up with. Sometimes I will use a small light when it's cloudy. They don't like wet feet, and feed often. As long as it's warm, fed, and has light it will do fine. Don't over water. And you will have to self pollinate with a q tip for fruit set. Smells wonderful in the house when in bloom.

I use the clam shells and love em. The 2 inch seems to small. The 6 inch is to big for up potting for shipping. But the 4 inch ones are just right. I have 50 pairs and love em.
