Every time I have tried to overwinter them I have ended up with an aphid infestation.

One thing I'd like to bring up, "self fertile" is wrong, they just produce edible figs without pollination. They don't produce any viable seeds.

Greetings,
I have do disagree with Jarrett, I found if you gave them enough time in the water and added food they would develop feeder roots and transfer great to dirt. I had my biggest success with water rooting because by the time they were transferred to dirt they were strong enough not to be killed by shock. It is also the first year not to lose half to gnats. Also waiting till the roots are brown and no the brittle white makes a big difference.

I was a bit surprised last year by the 78$ charge for shipping , but they did send it next day.
I did place another request this year as I am working on starting an orchard for the local school system and teaching the children about rooting and growing all manner of plants.
I think that this is a wonderful thing, otherwise these cutting would just go to waste as the trees need pruning no matter what and when talking with Dr Johnson at LSU I know that he at least uses it as credits for some of his grad students.

Yeah there is what you should do and what you get around to...lol This past two weeks was the first time in a long time I have changed the water, I have been letting it go till it was kinda icky looking... I will say I do notice a perking up after I change the water and add the new nutrients..

I potted up one recently that had roots over a foot long, it had no shock at all in is growing like a weed. I have only lost one to shock so far and that one I just should have waited but I got impatient.

IMG_0988.JPG  This first one is the ones that are no longer in the humility bin

2.23.15.jpg  These are some I have just started and few that you can see have been in a long time, I am running out of room outside of the bubbler so I am working on making room before I pot some of these up, but it seems they are not hurt by staying in longer.
Bnr4H.jpg  This is the first cloner I got, the other I made. So far I am very happy with the results I have had.

Well if they are selling Harvey's cutting, then the cuttings look great when they get them... and by the time they know they were ripped off it is too late to leave bad feedback. I have 100% positive feedback and if the person I am thinking of buying from doesn't I am sure to check why.

I defiantly prefer to trade or just give cuttings to someone.... and I don't do a good job of knowing who I have given stuff to, I would not make a good Mob member...more like the Lolly Pop gild.

I just found that my cutting were much happier in a dome... when I pot them up they go into a tube with a dome also, right now they trees are doing well with it sitting open and no dome but at first they would go very limp without it... when I have tried rooting cutting without a cover they have not done well.
I use domes when I start seeds and micro greens, just seems to get them stronger faster.

Ha! Abcd... I sent you that after Harvey and I decided there was something off about you.... you neglected to mention that you asked me for cuttings when I was offering them for free and I turned you down and put this post on my offer "This is for active members who have filled out a profile and done some posting. Happy Black Friday!! "
So don't say you didn't seek to be given cuttings...
This was the message you sent me.. Abcd-
Would like to get 3 packages /  7 cuttings in each/.
Trying to get an idea , how to handle cuttings, no luck so far.
I looked at your profile and posting and decided not to answer you...
You make no sense why would anyone ask you who is suppose to be a newbie to sell for them on eBay when there are many people on here with good reputations that could help them.

I think your right Joe, and it was a gut feeling that got Harvey and I talking and then he talked to others....I think it is important as a community that we look out for each other. So when I notice something hinky I will say something and some times seek the advice of others to see if they noticed anything either.
I hope that this makes us a better group and helps new people not get suckered and then soured on growing figs.

Funny enough, abcd told me someone was selling him hundreds of Celeste cuttings for 50 cents each... I wonder what they are sell as on eBay. I have no problem with anyone selling anything they got legally, but saying they are something they are not is the problem.

I'm afraid figs have become big business with so many selling to for top prices, and with cutting you don't know for a year or more if you have been scammed..... it seem obvious there is a recent rash of scammers coming out of the woodwork.

I grew the reaper, ghost and scorpion last year. I brought the plants in to winter inside the are bigger than some of my figs. Hubby loves hot and super hot, he decided to try just taking a bite of a fresh reaper, about two chews in he was running to the sink and then to the freezer. I think he had thre frozen pops before he could speak again. Wish I been taping that LOL
