My MBVS is a vigorous grower and like yours, this year they are bigger than last.
Great flavor, lots of fruit.  A definite keeper for me!
One thing I really like is that over ripe fruit will not sour (at least not for me) it starts to dry and get a "jammy" texture with concentrated flavor!

This cultivar was collected many years ago as cutting from a tree near the Leaning Tower (hence the name).  Mine is young yet, first year to fruit.

No pics of leaves but a mix of spade and 3 lobe.

Anyone want to venture a guess and help identify?

Any help would be appreciated.  I know it is a long shot.

BTW, a GREAT fig, one of the better breba, if not the best, of the season.

Thanks

Greg

Charlie,
I have several in ground, most will be 3 year olds but spending their first winter in ground (with protection). I have a MBVS and a Ginos that have spent the past 2 winters in ground and have done well (in ground).  About an hour north of you.  Looking forward to what info you may have to share.

I am not an expert but does not necessarily look like severe FMV to me. Others may chime in with more knowledge than me.,
maybe inconsistent watering / heat combo?

Subject: Atreano with spade leaves? What is it otherwise? Replies: 7

I have a couple Atreano's including a RR. I will try to remember to look tonight.
Question,  the Atrreano breba I have tasted so far were less than impressive.
Is this a function of younger trees or is the main crop significantly better than the breba?

Thankfully not near my figs but found this GIANT slug the other night.  Canister of salt next to it for size comparison.  Roughly 4" long.

Thanks for the comments. It is  a great tasting fig that turns jammy as it ripens / dries on the tree.
Someone suggested BAYENFEIGE VIOLETTA,,
Thoughts anyone? Feifgenbaum?

Got this one from a friend.  Not much known about it other than Mother plant had German origins. Hoped to be somewhat cold tolerant (I have in ground now for testing) Mostly closed eye, smaller ant can get in it.  Will at least partially dry on the tree.  Good Flavor, not dis-similar from MBVS in flavor.  Gets nice and jammy as it gets riper / dryer. Any thoughts among known Cultivars?

Best was RDB, followed by McCool and Atreano. Atreano could have used another day or two in it defense.

No, you don't have to. BUT in my experience you get better results if you do.
BUT (another one, I know,,)  I do not girdle,  I take an old fork and scratch lengthwise, covering the area to be rooted.

Dennis,
My Sweet George (Marius) is one of my most vigorous growers with little to no signs of FMV.  Have one  in pot and just put one in the ground. This year will be the first year for me to really try the figs. Had ONE last year, and it was good.
My B.V. just went into the ground.  Was not impressed with the fruit last year, but it was young, it looks to be suffering from slight FMV.

I have painted my pots white and found that that helps. I think it is highly related to soil temperature in the pot.

To put a fig tree in ground?
Been crazy busy with work travel and then flooding kept me from getting a lot of stuff done.
Zone 6b  NW Arkansas.  have a couple 3-4 year old trees in pots that need to go in ground, just haven't had the time yet.  Is it too late?
Thanks

Welcome,
my thoughts for what they are worth:
1) go in-ground in an area that has good drainage, figs don't like wet roots. they generally do MUCH better in ground.
2) keep pots for back up (airlyaers)

he will have MANY to choose from.  others will chime in on ones that do well in humid conditions w/o splitting.
I can tell you that Sals Corleone is one prone to splitting so may not be the best choice

Maybe some of the more wise will chime in, but my understanding is that some are more cold tolerant, those that are, become more so as they gain age and diameter, the larger girth being less susceptible to damage,,,

Question,
I have bought but never SOLD on ebay. I have numerous extra plants I want to get rid of.
I know when I buy I tend to look for buyers with good ratings and numerous sales.  Is there any way, other than to jump in and start selling, to help give buyers confidence that I am genuine?
