Wine or whiskey barrels work well.  The wood is a natural insulator and allow moisture to escape naturally.  It has worked for me very well.

My figs are in typical wood wine barrels. I mulch the top and cover the trees in moving blankets. They can freeze in an attached garage but they do just fine.

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.  I am Pete from the suburbs of Chicago.  I have recently been growing a few fig varieties as a hobby.  I will tell you a quick story of how it started.  I've visited my Grandparents in the south of Greece a few times as a child.  My most precious memories include picking fresh figs off the random fig trees.   A few years ago I was at an area nursery and a smell instantly brought me back 25 years.  I swear I got goose bumps.  Not for the fruit but for the memories of my Grandparents and a really special moment in my life.  I love the rewards these plants provide but more importantly the memories and constant reminder of my roots.

Thanks for all the incredible advice.  I hope one day to pass these fruiting gifts on to my three kids and perhaps a good memory.

Pete

Greeting, I was wondering if anyone had pruning guidelines/tips for container grown figs. Any help would be appreciated. My collection is very young but growing too fast.
