Today when I was out going for my buggy walk with my daughter, I found what they call jungle fig behind my home in a bambooed area. I believe it to be Ficus racemosa. If you are interested a cutting let me know. I will take a picture of the tree tomorrow and upload it . I have included the cutting I took.

My maltese fig finally arrived..... My problem is should I take off a newly sprouting figs. The cutting does not have leaves but a fig. Is it safe to rip the fig off? Or will the cutting die.

Are Maltese Beauty and Maltese Falcon the real names? The reason I ask is I am getting Tin San Gwuan, and I was wondering if those were alternative names?

I am but have never lived in Malta nor can I speak the language. My father uses tin for fig. As for spelling there was a moderization of the language, which would perhaps explain the variations in spelling....I know my grandmothers last name orginally was spelled xini but changed cini. I learned this when I was filling out my papers for citizenship....

What about worm castings. I have had some plants grow well with it. But could be luck as there is no proof it was the cause for growth.

Thanks. I am even more excited to get the cuttings. Tin = fig in maltese. I am so ignorant of my cultural background. Thanks again.

My father just emailed me and said Tin San Gwann - Saint John's fig.  He was telling me that the maltese tend to shorten things like crazy.  So I was searching Tin like a mad man. THanks Now I can put the pieces together.

My Uncle has come across some fig plants and has aquired cuttings for me. My uncle is not an English speaker so it is hard for my father to try to put these into English.  Does anybody know the below types of figs.

bajtar fig (green figs) in June
tin fig (white or dark figs) in August.
farkizzan fig (small and oblong shape).

Thanks

Thanks for the input on this from everyone.  I will keep you posted if I am sucessful.  I usually put my cuttings into potting bags.  I have had about 85% sucess rate.  I had a lower rate because we had rain for week non stop and I lost some of them do to being too damp.  Other than that most root and sprout with a problem.

I talked with him via email and he had a good offer but the shipping was way too much. I mean 50 to ship to Thailand is too much considering it should only be 15-25. i have paid 32 but that was for books that weighed over a kg

Are larger cuttings just as easy to root as smaller ones.  I recieved a huge cutting that looks more like fire wood than a fig cutting.  So I am wondering if anyone can give me some pointers.

I have only 60 % success with black mission.  I will try some more.  I will try the cup thing with that was in another post.  I think that will work with a bag to control humidity

Perhaps you guys are losing them due to being too damp...... Armando the leave look awsome.  I usually plant them on the first leaf being sprouted, However I am never to this.  I lost 8 cuttings because the bark became soggy.  I was mad about that so, can understand 65 cuttings.

I am not a master gardener but what he is really telling you is he lacks the skills to take care of the plant you sent him.  By the way that plant is very nice....Move on and do what you have been doing.... selling awsome fig trees.

I have not seen any pointer on the question I am going to ask.

When I cut/scrap off the bark to air layer is there any particular place that will root better than others?  Or is it all the same regardless where you put it?

I keep looking at my tree with guilt like I may kill it and just stop my shelf from doing it....... I had the bag, the string and utility knife ready...then stopped

Frank I am not sure the name of the moss but the my anut told me it is called Hermit Beard in Thai.  She only know the Thai name.  It take in water in two ways... if it gets wet or through air-roots.  It was free and cool.  I hang it on a wire that is a circle with zzzz partern bends in it.  They sell them here in Bangkok for 25 cents.(wire rack included)

Is there a special time to do air layering?  I want to attemp this with my really tall Brown Turkey but what I fear is the lower half does not have any growth on it.  Would you recommend this?

My trees are about 120 -150 cm tall. They grew quickly here in Thailand.  As you can see they are single branches and I  want them to bush out without killing them.  Each has a green bud on top and a few have starting figs(or so I believe)..... I am not sure my trees will go dorment due to the climate.  Any suggestions.... thanks for the links and tips.

I have trees from cuttings that are growing up to the heavens that are merely single branches.  Is there a way I can prune the tree to make it bush out?  What I am worried about is killing the tree as I am not sure when I can prune.  Just so you know I am located in Thailand.
