Yep I get the bark at home depot and I believe it is called soil conditioner. It's really small bark in a maroon to brown bag. Kept with the bigger bark.

Sure looks like Black Madeira. Remember too that they will range in different sizes in different climates. An example of this is Sid is getting Preto over 100 grams in Hawaii.

Probably any fig tree could get large in the right climate. However, I believe VDB is known to be a dwarf variety but I guess it's all in how you prune it.

The picture that Condit shows is a standard black mission. The production trees here in Fresno all have that shape.
