I personally purchased my Peter's Honey from 'Bay Flora' (along with a White Genoa) and am VERY pleased with both.

Both are from Sicily, and excellent.  Not the same fig however.

Kadota (Dottato) --> http://www.scordo.com/2011/08/the-figs-of-calabria.html

A good description for both can be found here -->  http://www.adrianosfigtrees.com/varieties.html

Like anything else, make sure you purchase from a reliable source.

Plenty of reputable members on this site sell cuttings/trees.

Rich,

Per your article:

http://www.globalsciencebooks.info/JournalsSup/images/Sample/PS_4(1)5-17o.pdf

'Growing of plants under continuous light may increase yield, but it also increases light energy input per unit biomass produced.' - not a concern for me personally

'Due to its ability to accelerate reproductive cycle continuous light was shown to be a useful tool for the breeders of some LD crops...'

Realistically there are so many variables to this that its completely inconclusive.

As the article states in its conclusion, more research is needed. -->  'Knowledge on plant growth and development under continuous light can also provide us with a better understanding of PLANT ADAPTATIONS in the Artic under conditions of the polar day.'

For instance, most of what I grow is hydroponic which means the plants have all the nutrients it could want to make use the second its required.

Either way I do this for fun, not profit.  For my plants, and conditions I'm getting maximum growth and I'm getting to eat fresh figs in the winter :)

Do what makes you happy.

-Anthony

Some plant's/trees do great under 24/7 and don't require a rest period.

My Super-Hot peppers also thrive this way as well.

Just bought a PeeGee Hydrangea (tree form) and its now loaded with green buds since instead of planting it, I put it into my grow room (24/7) to kick start it.  My Fuschia's the same as well as my Strawberries.

To each his own I guess, although my trees would disagree with you :)

I run mine 24/7 on Full Spectrum Hortilux Blues.  My adult trees are all pushing figs and ripening already...

We all see that it's similar with figs:  a particular variety turns out differently in different locations.  A Black Mission fig grown in Southern California tastes a whole lot different from a Black Mission fig grown in Maine (if you can even get one to ripen in Maine).  Soil, climate, humidity, amount of sun, etc... all those things have a huge influence.

Not a startling conclusion.  But the amount of capsaicinoids in a pepper variety can vary quite a lot... enough to make the question "what's the hottest variety?" be indeterminate, except for marketing hype.  I'll stick to habaneros... when I was younger the thought of another hotter-yet pepper was a thrill, but now it just makes me think about chemical burns (and my wish to avoid them).

Mike

P.S.  Nice thread, Frank.  Good luck with those ghost peppers!  But watch out you don't burn yourself.  :-)

Carolina Reaper is the worlds hottest.  Created by Smokin' Ed.

Guinness Book of World Records --> http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/news/2013/11/confirmed-smokin-eds-carolina-reaper-sets-new-record-for-hottest-chilli-53033/

I have a few plants of these growing, as well as Chocolate Moruga's, 5 different types of Ghost Peppers etc.  I grow all of mine hydroponically.

Nothing beats making pepper rings sautéed in olive oil on PIZZA!

Just like figs, these peppers all taste different once you can get past the heat.  i.e.  Regular ghost peppers have a 'smoky' flavor, yet Peach Ghosts are just as hot but 'sweet'.
