I have only made a few posts but I am very much a newbie. A while ago I got some cuttings from a member and I have been using the bag method. I have seen a few roots but every time I put a cutting in the pot the roots shrivel up and die. I'm just using soil. The cuttings don't appear to have rotted. When they were in pot, I had a plastic bag over them to keep the humidity in. Any suggestions? Thanks:)

Ok, thanks for the info, also one of my cuttings has little roots on it. Should I wait for more before potting it? Thanks.

Hi, I have three cuttings in plastic bags with damp paper towels. My question is- how many roots should the cutting have before it is ready to be transplanted and how long should the roots be? Thanks:)

Ok, thanks for the tips. As much as it pains me I will break off the green growth :P. Also, one of the other cuttings has some thin bumps coming out of the bottom. How do I tell if this is root growth. Thanks. :)

Hi, a couple of weeks ago I received a few cuttings from a very generous member here (thanks!). I put them in damp paper towels in bags and one of them has 2 very tiny leaves, how long should I leave it in the bag before putting it in a pot, it doesn't have roots yet. Also, I have heard lots of mention of root initials but how do you identify those? Two of the cuttings have many different new bumps but I don't know if those are initials or just latex or something else. Thanks!

I know some forum members are nervous about giving cuttings to newer members but if possible I would love a cutting to start my collection :) I don't have anything on your wish list to trade so I would pay shipping, but if I ever have anything you want I will happily send you a cutting
Its great that you are doing this, some of us have very little access to unique varieties or really, fig cuttings at all.
Sorry, I am such a newbie, should I pm you?

Hi, does anyone know if home depot will special order plants specifically fruit/fig trees? Thanks, I know some other types of stores do this and HD does it for other things.

I can see that you already have plenty of interest but if you can get enough I would love to pay postage for a few cuttings. Thanks:)
It's so cool that y'all have fig trees like these in your areas, I have never seen any fig trees 'round here.

Well I could get Black Mission or Brown Turkey (maybe Kadota) for around $25 at home depot and Celeste or Kadota would be around $45 at a nursery. Honestly, I have gotten some nice trees from home depot so Im not too concerned about that. Im pretty sure online would be more expensive than that only because of shipping.

Ok, it sounds like I should probably get a plant then, at least for the first tree. At my local nurseries it seems they have Kadota, Brown turkey, black mission and Celeste. Their are obviously more choices online but I am nervous about ordering a plant online and having it shipped. What do you thing would be best? In store vs online? Variety? Sorry for all the questions, thanks though :)

This may not be in the right place, but around how big should a fig tree be before attempting to airlayer it?

Hi y'all, I was wondering, did you guys get your first fig trees as potted plants or cuttings? Which do you prefer for getting new plants? Also, what (relatively common) varieties do you guys like the best, especially for hot climates? Thanks!

Thanks for the kind welcome everybody! I'll have to keep my eye out for fig trees around me, would y'all recommend starting with cuttings or a store bought tree? I want to make sure I do this right. Thanks :)

Hi everybody! I am new here and figured I should introduce myself. I am Sidney and I love growing edibles though I only have a few. I don't currently have any fig plants nor have I ever tried a fig, however, I plan to eventually grow some, and figured I would see what it is all about. :D
