hang some cheap dollar store soap in the area. I pull a cheap supermarket bag through a hole drilled in the middle. It amplifies the scent, collects water, dumps on a nosy deer and has a strange texture, even makes noise in the wind. Perfect! Deer hate it...

I'd gently bend the fresh branches down to the ground and tack them with something so they stay there. then work it next year. If you wait til next year to get them to the surface they will have gotten woody and won't be as pliable.

My practice run with cuttings from my unknown Celeste was a giant bomb.

I was worried to mess up the beautiful refrigerator cuttings from Ms.Javajunkie.

I did not remember that I took a chance with two of Ms.Javajunkies stick donations, forgot all about them and looked at the sharpie writing on it...

Black Greek took and has roots and the tiny leaves on it.
GMdiLipari has funky ripples n dots no roots no leaves. So I put her back in the mix.
The Eversweet Pomegranate sticklet, which I would not have bet a $ on, has little leaves.
... make a long story short.

Out with my Celeste-do-nothings and potting a new batch of 8 refrigerator cuttings.
In a few weeks I will do the rest batch. Amended the MG seed potting soil with perlite and now also with a bag of Orchid medium. Maybe in the morning I'll take some pictures.
I put them outside in the dark well moistened with a little good night prayer,    :-)!

Dennis, I am in the middle of nowhere between Clemmons/Lexington/WS where the neighbors keep donkeys to keep the coyotes away from their livestock.
A year ago a monkey got away from a research facility and he did good out here for a few weeks 'til a little girl ratted on him, because he was bunking in her play house.

Subject: Trimmed the 25 ft Fig Replies: 12
Posted By: LizzieB Views: 882

My unknown Celeste is coming back finally, up to about 3 feet off the ground new growth sprouting out of the main arms and the elephant trunks in the ground. Above 3 feet she is all brown dry branches. They break right off. Bone dry inside too.
It's in the high 80'ties during the day and had been pretty hot. I deep watered her around the root perimeter for about two hours and she started taking off after that.
I didn't think she needed moisture since we had so much rain in the spring even two weeks ago. I don't usually water her at all, unless we have the ground cracking.
I'm just letting her grow for now avoiding all stress. I will maybe trim her back one branch at a time, once she has her mature leaves on. Never did get any borers in NC lucky duck, will seal and paint her as soon as the leaves fall.

How exciting that you went on a fig hunt with your son. He just might remember the old abandoned orange grove with the fig trees that his dad discovered in years to come.
Remarkable that the figs are growing without any intervention or fixings. How very different. The one leaf almost resembles a grape leaf. Thank you for the pictures.

Mr. Aladino Giovanni Sbragia arrived on 10 Feb 1921 from Capannori, Lucca Italy. He travelled on the ship Duca d'Aosta leaving Genoa to New York. Then moved California. He naturalized in 1962. @per Familysearch/Ancestry.com.
I bet he'd be very happy to see his fig doing well.

The last two years we have had mosquitos that feel like you have been impaled with a hot poker.

Each year I've come down with cellulitis from a skeeter bite. Been lucky this year since the neighbor filled in his swamp water pool.

Started getting those clips.

My boss swears by them when he goes camping and fly fishing.

All good , just picking on you.
That has to hurt like crazy to have 6 barbed feet digging in your ear canal.

NC is known for wicked bot flies nesting in people. They think its an ingrown hair til it starts to wiggle....

Earwigs don't have wings and they have pincers on their tail end.
It looks like a little click beetle. What hurts to much is that it can't turn around and the instinct is to keep going. Right into the eardrum.  Miami is really buggy, so first lidocaine, or any an anesthetic, then something oily to kill it, then fish it out.
I feel for the patient.

PS: Why did the nurse pick it out of the trash for the scientist?

We had a lot of rabbit for dinner growing up in Germany. It's delicious! Those were wild big JackRabbits though.

When I visited sister acouple of years ago, her kids had a hutch outside that got infested with ticks and fleas.

We kept a white pet bunneh in our garage and it lived almost 12 years. It was a rescue on Easter morning, just a little baby. It got caught in some chicken wire and the neighbors cat tried to catch it.

How do you prevent these set ups from molding?
Do you let it air out during the day? I received these beautiful cuttings in the mail that are resting in my refrigerator and I'm cared to death to ruin them. I have the cuttings from my monster. I was thinking of "practicing" on the fig pieces from the yard first.

I could not locate the mix you referred to within 600 miles without mail ordering. I did however find a company that sells Mycorrhizae and other inoculants on the web in small weights of 1-4 oz.
https://www.kelp4less.com/shop/mycorrhizae-and-inoculants/

this could be mixed with vermiculite/perlite and peat as a do it yourself at a reasonable price without shipping bales.

Should I seal the cuts on the fig after cutting it back? 1 inch or thicker / main branches? I've seen sealing material for fruit trees. Not sure if that applies here.
