I bough an Adriano several years ago from Brugmansia Quebec nursery, who Got it from Adriano. Like you, it took me several years to get it to ripen as the growing season is very long. Now that I am finally getting fruit this year, I see it either never was the Adriano or it has reverted back to Pingo de Mel. I am happy with the fig, in spite of everything. I never imagine myself being a fan of a honey fig, but here I am. It is quite good.

If Pingo de Mel is an edible caprifig, then wouldn't that mean that Adriano, a sport of Pingo de Mel, is also an edible caprifig? Would this be verifiable by microscopic examination of the fig synconiums?

1. Galicia Negra
2. Grise de St. Jean
3. Damatie (promised)
4. Longue d'Aout
5. I395
6. I258?

For trade, I have air-layers of Hardy Chicago, Ronde de Bourdeaux, an unknown Italian, a Madeira Island Black (not THE MIB), Raspberry Latte, Red Lebanese from Beka'a Valley, Adriano (from Brugmansia Quebec- it is a sport of Pingo de Mel and supposed to be one of Adriano's favorites), White Patlican, Ficazzana Black, Col de Dame Grise, St. Rita's, Lyndhurst White (love it-very underrated).

Also, you have to make sure your dogs don't get a taste for them! Potty time is closely monitored here in Central PA because my bastard wiener dog is the biggest threat to my figs. Last year he ate my first ripe Col de Dame Grise ORGANZA BAG and and all and proceeded to vomit it all up on the couch half a day later.

Brianm, what kind of parafilm do you use? A quick search brought up grafting and scientific and there are many different widths.

I have tons of little figs on my trees. First year overwintered in ground. When do you all start to see them ripen? I'm so anxious!!

I have also had 100% success with water rooting of green cuttings. I use 8 inch cuttings and remove all but one leaf and cut that leaf in half . I have heard that changing the water often is critical .

Finally, a shoot starting in the RdB! Took long enough! The three of them survived being outside this winter, though, covered with burlap and leaves.

Everybody is out. Still doing fine. Waiting to see signs of life from the in-ground babies that I had wrapped and mulched. Fingers crossed!

Subject: Why Do I Have Seeds in My Figs? Replies: 7

You probably think this is a stupid question. I have read tons on this subject and I still need help from my learned friends. (Youse guys)
I live in south central Pennsylvania and my two year old RDB has some seeds in the figs I have gotten this year. What gives? I can't imagine there is a nearby caprifig in the country area I live in. And even if there were I thought we didn't have any Blastophaga psenes fig wasps here.
Shouldn't I NOT have seeds if I have not been pollinated??
I am going to save some seeds and try to get them to grow.
Laura

I put an Adriano in the ground this year. Tons of figs. None ripe yet, so I am watching for the stripes. I hope some soon ripen and aren't all next spring's breba. I am in Z6B so I glad it is cold hardy.

I purchased some off of eBay and 4 months later had a USDA agent KNOCK ON MY DOOR to confiscate them and educate me on the dangers of importing things without quarantine, proper procedure, etc. I get it. I do. So maybe have them do a transaction outside of eBay and buy at your own risk. The cuttings I got were great. They arrived quickly and rooted well. I was sad they all had to be destroyed however. Perhaps if they come knocking, offer them a bunch of brown turkeys and put on a sad face.
